They said Spye spends up to 35 Million

The list for those that don't want to watch the video

1 Ohio State
2 Tennessee
3 Tecas
4 Oregon
5 Miami
6 Ole Miss
7 FSU
8 Nebraska
9 Louisville
10 Mizzou

No Georgia or Bama?

They must still use the tax free NIL of cash under the table.

This begs the question . . . Do you want to be an “everything” school or compete consistently at the highest level in football? If you’re spreading it around, you are not devoting the maximum resources you could to football. My preference would be to pour everything into football and MBB. The rest of the sports could be cut as far as I’m concerned.

Totally disagree. Baseball will forever be America's favorite past time. And you just wanna throw away what Pat built here in women's basketball? Pathetic.

Even if we shuttered every sport and poured all the money into football, we still aren't going to keep up with the Texas and OSUs of the world. To quote my grandfather, "Texas has more money than God."

I'd rather us be an everything school with a chance at the playoffs in football every few years. I mean we are elite across the board right now, let's not ruin a good thing.

Jmho, of course.

If this is true then why are we such a poverty franchise in football? We can't land a top 5 recruiting class and we can't land any major transfers.

Frankly I'm shocked at that list. I thought we might be top 10 but I didn't expect us to be #2, ahead of Texas. And where is Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Michigan? How are they not in the top 10? Where are the other "big oil money" schools like A&M, SMU, etc?

There is a less than zero percent chance that Tennessee has more NIL money than either Texas schools or Oregon. That’s just dumb

How are they getting their information? These lists seem to vary wildly each time they’re released.

Ohio State kicked our asses in the PLAYOFFS, similar to the other games they played. In a fair seeding we wouldn't have been playing them, but that's actually beside the point. How did their basketball program stack up to our elite 8 team? Oh yeah, their baseball team to one that won the National Championship? We can go down the list
Am I in the wrong forum? I thought this was for football?

Nah I’m in the right spot. You’re just arguing apples against oranges for your agenda. I watch the other sports, but don’t follow closely enough to keep up with NIL, etc. I’m willing to bet much, much more money is spent in the football realm of NIL. It’s common sense. I’ve never seen sold out games of 100K for baseball or basketball. The revenue brought in is vastly different.

All to say we may be spending the money in the smaller arenas to keep up but we aren’t in football. It just is what it is.

Also, could you give me a lesson on our programs? Didn’t Barnes and Tony V. Both have those programs headed in the right direction pre NIL? Sure did. Let’s not act like we just bought those teams in the last couple of years.

This was debunked years ago. Baseball isn’t as popular as it once was. As for women’s basketball, I get it. But you still have to do what makes sense. It’s business. Our resources should go to what gets the biggest returns. Be that chess, debate club, or football.

Vols throw $ to multiple sports, men and women and yes baseball. Other schools, like KY focus on a particular sport. Hence, we my not have the bucks for one sport to be top dog.
TV and Vol baseball says what’s up. How do you contradict yourself within a couple of sentences?😂

I have to tell you...this is fairly accurate. Don't think it is an accident that we suddenly are good at sports we have not consistently been that great at for decades before $$$$$$ to the players hit such grand numbers. Sports is important to us. Much more so than other areas of our lives versus the average person out there. We have a lot of fans that place a lot of self value on how UT sports does.

In many cases as we see on these boards, maybe a bit too much self value.

Yeah, I'm certain much more is spent on football.

Baseball not as popular as it once was?? Maybe not nationally but we just won a Natty, it's never been more popular here than it is right now.

There are entities beyond NIL Collectives who play a role in getting benefits to players. Hard to say who they are in most cases, but that is the factor missing in that Top 10 NIL Collective list.
UT is a major player among the NIL Collectives. We are probably not Top 10 in the soft money category.

Yes, Barnes and Vitello are great coaches not because of NIL, but because they're great coaches. Since the advent of the portal and NIL, we have to step up there too to remain national contenders

Of course it is. We’re excelling in it right now. If it ever falls off again, you’ll stop hearing about it again.

I was referring to the “favorite past time” portion.

If you want to compare athletic programs, the best way is through the Directors Cup and OSU is in the top 10 quite a bit - year after year. But the runaway winner is Stanford and let's be honest.....who gives a rat's ass about some of the minor programs. Football is king and supports many of the smaller programs

Some crazy takeaways: Mizzou at 10, Ole Miss at 6, Nebraska 8

Bama, Auburn. TAMU, UGA, LSU, UF not ranked

Tennessee is ranked number 2

I have so many conversations with college football fans who say runaway transfers and NIL are ruining the sport

I think a chunk of fans tuning out will provide the constraint on all of this…
