Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

As I’ve aged, I can’t do much beer but do enjoy a cold Shinerboch or Gerst.
I cannot do IPAs. Maybe allergic or something but can’t freaking breathe after I have one.
And another take which seems to be agreed with or totally disagreed, I cannot stand Sam Adams beers. They all taste like perfume to me.

My dad always had a rule of thumb about "facing south" when the lot accommodated it.
Like the rear faced south or something. Either he explained or i made up the reason having to do with solar gain.

Probably not the rule it used to be with better insulation and more efficient hvac options.
Facing north or south is huge in Phoenix or the blistering summer sun burns you alive.

for best daylight, south facing is the best. but its the most expensive due to cooling. a good porch/overhang solves a lot of that. Typically the south-west corner is going to be the hottest part of the house.

if you are going to spend extra money on the windows for all the films, coatings, gas, triple pane or whatever, you will get the best bang for your buck on the south and west elevations. north & east you can be cheaper.

morning sun in the east isn't too bad as its early and relatively cool, but during the summer afternoon sun the west can bake.
Morning sun in Phoenix isn't cool.
