Raise the level, do not settle for like hire or worse. Pay what it takes to get the best available.

There's never been a time where this is more important than it is right now.

We're at a critical point. Tennessee finally turned things around after 20 years of "meh", but Heupel appears to have hit a plateau. How do we push through it? By doubling down on talent via NIL and upgrading the defensive staff. We did what needed to be done in recruiting, now we just need to get an elite DC. If we don't, everything was for nothing and the Heupel era will end within the next 3 years. If we do, we're going to win a national championship.

The stakes have never been higher.

I think we've learned with TN coaching hires in general, expect to be underwhelmed in name alone. Doesn't mean a good hire or the right hire won't be made.

He wouldn't be the worst choice, but IMO there are a few other candidates that hopefully are higher on the wish list. If they can hire Ryan Walters, I think he would be an excellent coach and hopefully is the primary target since he has the majority of the desirable traits that CJH needs on defense to compliment his offense. Based on his record and time as a DC, White appears solid, if not spectacular. He has been nominated as a Broyles Award candidate a couple times (not sure how much weight that actually carries). I would say he could be considered a middle of the pack choice. He has only been a true, stand alone DC for 4 or 5 years. There isn't a clear "home run hire" available on the market.

I would really like to see Aranda running the D.

I just don't think this is a likely scenario, unfortunately.

I was hoping Venerables would be fired this season and we could hire him.

I would not have a problem with that.

Just please make the best hire possible. This is a very big deal and an important juncture for Tennessee football and Josh Heupel. Please no experiments or retreads. Just hire a top notch DC and pay them a very attractive salary with great incentives.
