A USA Today report says the Tony White DC @ Florida State has been named a possibility to fill the Banks opening. This is the first I've heard about him. Thoughts?

That’s very unfortunate if true. Considering Heupels job depends on this being a good hire I would think he would aim a little higher.

He wouldn't be the worst choice, but IMO there are a few other candidates that hopefully are higher on the wish list. If they can hire Ryan Walters, I think he would be an excellent coach and hopefully is the primary target since he has the majority of the desirable traits that CJH needs on defense to compliment his offense. Based on his record and time as a DC, White appears solid, if not spectacular. He has been nominated as a Broyles Award candidate a couple times (not sure how much weight that actually carries). I would say he could be considered a middle of the pack choice. He has only been a true, stand alone DC for 4 or 5 years. There isn't a clear "home run hire" available on the market.

Good grief, why would we want someone worse than Banks?
I know someone mentioned him in another thread, so I looked into him. Dave Aranda is a dead man walking at Baylor. I know they only kept him because of all the coaching vacancies. If next year he doesn’t have a phenomenal season, he’s gone. Let’s do them the favor and pony it up and get a Very good DC.

His coaching career is a good read and checks all the boxes of what IMHO, would like to see as DC for Tennessee

Yes it’s a long shot and more than likely wouldn’t happen, but it would definitely be worth a look if it was up to me.

Since there was no link provided I had to go searching

Seems this is an article based on the On3 hot board that just about listed everyone. Not sure it really means anything

As they look to fill the vacancy, FSU defensive coordinator Tony White has been named as a possible replacement per Pete Nakos of On3.

I am convinced the vast majority of these articles are simply throwing names against the wall to see what sticks. All conjecture, all just for clicks.

There are a couple of posters on here that I trust so much more than random reporters.
They are hoping whatever they put out turns out to be correct so they can claim they called it first or knew what was going on to give them creditability.

Consider the source. What insight would usa today possibly have into Heupel's circle. This is most likely an agent trying to create value for their client. This is a nothing story

I would really like to see Aranda running the D.

I just don't think this is a likely scenario, unfortunately.

I was hoping Venerables would be fired this season and we could hire him.

So he is going to hire a DC that has not been as good as the DC he just canned?

I am trusting that Heupel had somewhat of plan on who he might hire before he fired his DC? Surely he just isn't going about this strictly willy-nilly.
