Tony Vitello to SF Giants (Merged )

The roster is gone. They came to play for TV not Elander. All that money spent and program investment for NOTHING!!! Ths absolutely sucks. Only at UT.

Not for nothing. Vitello’s success gave Tennessee fans a love for the baseball program and forced the university to commit financially to its success. The next hire needs to be a good one, but the university has already dropped the money so now they’ll expect success just as much as we do. There’s no backing out now.

And he chose us over multiple other college offers he’s received while here. This is an unheard of thing. College coaches do not go straight to an MLB HC gig. If he leaves, he’s forever a legend here and I hope he wins multiple World Series. That simple really
I agree until he inevitably gets fired like every MLB manager does and ends up at Arkansas

This sucks. I understand it, but I was telling myself that the rumors were just that. That TVs style wouldn’t translate to the majors, that his biggest strength, recruiting, would not matter there, that he had all the job security he needed here where you don’t have that in the majors. But TV is a different breed, very driven, and someone who should exceed in whatever he chooses to do. I wish him well and will be pulling for him. But damn, it does suck.

It won’t go well for him, his coaching isn’t built for the majors so in a few years he will be back to college with a blemish on his record of a failed major league manager.

Giants won’t spend the money the Dodgers do or even the Padres and they sure don’t have the farm system that the Dodgers have. His swagger doesn’t work in the majors either, there’s a reason most managers are pretty much thumbs on the bench while his players are usually making more than the manager is. I wish him luck, but it’s going to be a hit to his system to have the college baseball world by the balls and go in and suck in the majors and limp back to the college ranks afterwards. Guess at least he’ll have millions to cry into at that point.
Their payroll is higher than Seattle’s, and they are on the cusp of the World Series.

No he won’t lol. Giants are serious about winning. He will win a World Series there after the Dodgers dynasty ends within the next 5 years.
We’ll see. What sets CTV apart if is ability to connect with young men (recruiting & motivating), a tireless work ethic in the aforementioned field and projecting underdeveloped talent. None of those are required in the professional game. Tony has out talented and/or out motivated the majority of the programs he’s gone against; he won’t get to pick his team in the same manner and how do grown men respond to his motivation tactics and antics?

So much of how I feel. College success does not often translate success in the pro's . His talent in college was attracting young talent that wanted to play for him and his program. In the pro's, so much gets decided by the GM and owners. You often only get a couple years to turn around a program before getting axed. He's playing in a tough division . When's the last time Giants even made a wild card paly off? Guess he'll get paid better there though

If he leaves, he is a coach who brought us a title; for that I will be grateful.

Legends are lifers. Summitt, Neyland, Fulmer.

Legends get statues and stadiums named after them.

Tony will be a nice memory who had a chance to be a legend if he’d stayed.
