Tony Barnhart's Take On Fulmer, Tuberville & Coaching Changes

The right thing for Fulmer to do is after we thoroughly get whipped by Bama is to hold a press conference saying that he will resign at the end of the year. If Fulmer goes kicking and screaming everyone will have a negative outlook on Fulmer in regard to Tennessee football. He needs to do whats best for UT football not whats best for Phillip Fulmer.

Pretty good article. The question I would ask though is if you're not doing everything you can to win championships, including gambling on some changes, then what's the point of having team?

He wouldn't announce that he is retiring mid-season. It would cause too much of a distraction and cause akwardness in the clubhouse. Not to mention the recruiting impact.

another version of be careful what you wish for.......

I just can't buy into that philosophy with regard to keeping or firing Fulmer.

At this point, he looks like nothing more than an average coach at a big-time football school, who just happened to catch lightning in a bottle for a couple of years in the late 90's.

Other than the possible short-term loss of a few recruits, what's the risk in letting him go?

He says we seem to want change for the sake of change, then that we have some good reasons to want change...

which is it Tony?... Nice waffle.

change for better or worse. at least if hes gone, ut has more going for it than 95 percent of other major college schools, a much better coach will come along.

This article is crap. How can the product on the field get any worse? At least a change would bring excitment.

Auburn's problem (fan unrest) has more to do with what is happening with Bama, not the case with the Vols.

call me crazy, but I think losing B2B to Vandy and Arky is probably more pertinent to the fans than what might be happening in Tuscy.

I didn't mean to imply that those losses do not matter but the average Auburn fan is obsessed with what Saban has been able to accomplish.

Resign=give up all rights to future compensation under his contract. He has donated $1 million to the school already, but if you expect him to walk away from $6 million, that's not realistic.

Further, any of the people who keep posting that "love for UT" should prompt him to do this are lying to themselves, us and/or both if they claim they'd do it if they were in Fulmer's shoes.

Negotiate a buyout for a somewhat reduced price? Possible. Just walk away for no $$? No way; you wouldn't either.
