He's been back and forth, it seems, between being a head coach, coordinator, and a position coach. I honestly don't know if he was more of a 'defensive' or 'offensive' head coach at Memphis.. Obviously he played TE at Tenn in the early 70s, but he also spent a few years as a LB coach at Clemson... was a DC at SCarolina for a couple seasons...
I dunno. For UAB, maybe it's a good hire.
I think it's a good deal for Tommy... Personally, I think he got a raw deal from Memphis and I thought Vandy would consider looking at him as head coach.
