He transformed from an awkward Freshman to an All-American by his Senior season at Tennessee and from there had a stellar career as a member of the Chicago Bulls.

Fondly remembered and sorely missed.

Great memories lying in the family room floor with my dad and our ears in the stereo speakers listening to those teams with Tom, Widby, Hahn, England and Justice. Great era of Vol Basketball.

Living in Georgia I spent many a night walking all over the house with my radio trying to get reception of the game broadcast on Knoxville station.

Tom was a great team player.

I agree. An awful lot of nail biting games. God, it was great.

RIP Tom

I remember he once fell flat of his back. I'm certain the foundations must have cracked.

Wow, we were just talking about him in another thread a few days ago. He was a year ahead of me and I met him a few times. Gentle giant sort of guy. If there is a Heaven, Stu will be swatting a broomstick at him once again.

RIP Tom.

He is the 1st Vol basketball player I ever remember at UT, along with Bill Justice & Mike Edwards. He was a BIG guy when they weren't very common. RIP good man.

Sad to hear this. RIP Tom.

When he was playing for the Bulls, a friend of mine told me that he went to see him play in Chicago and waited for him outside of the stadium. My friend introduced himself as a Vol fan and he said that Tom not only was friendly but the two of them went out for a drink together!

Of all of the great players in Tennessee Basketball history, no one was ever drafted higher than Tom Boerwinkle (4th player chosen).
