My head was still pounding from the 4-wheeler "incident" last night and of course everybody at work had a nice chuckle. Which I deserved. But I get home from work and my dog has died. She was almost 12 and in bad shape anyway, but damn. So I wrapped her in her blanket and took her into the woods and buried her. Then took all the rest of her food and treats to a friend's house who has dogs. And had a beer even though I haven't had one in a very long time. Sobriety may be over-rated. Glad tomorrow is Friday.

Sorry to hear it... I know what's it's like losing a dog you've had for that long.

Man, I am really sorry to hear about you losing your dog. That seriously sucks.

What kind of 4 wheeler incident did you have? Did I miss something in another thread?

Sorry to hear you lost your dog, Dave. I understand your sad surprise discovering what happened when you got home. We had a bassett who was about 14 years old and in bad shape so we decided it was better to let her go. My wife agreed to take her to the vets to go to sleep and I would be able to stay at a distance because the dog and I were very close. Well, later in the day my wife called me to say the vet wanted me to come by to settle the account so I stopped by on the way home to pay them. When I arrived I was okay since I assumed Freckles had already gone to heaven. As I was writing the check the girl said she was still around in the back and asked if I wanted to say good bye. Of course I said no and had to leave quickly because I obviously developed a case of allergies in my eyes.

sorry
It's never easy losing something that's so close to you and your family

We had to put our Great Dane down about 6 months ago..

I don't think I posted about the 4-wheeler incident. Suffice to say that:
1. No good deed goes unpunished
2. ALWAYS wear a *bleeping* helmet.

And yeah it was really hard to deal with. I probably won't get another dog for a while. Maybe next spring.

My parents lost their dog back in Jan. she was a boston terrier 9 yrs old. she had heart failure last yr and survived for about another 6-9 months. it was tough cause i was a soph in hs when we got her. i was close to the dog even tho i hadn't lived at home for a while.

Sorry to hear about the dog, i still miss every one we've had that passed on. I guess over time, the sadness goes away, and the memories are always good for a chuckle.

You have a good idea on waiting a bit to get another, the friendship can't be replaced instantly.
