September 1, 1984.......

In his first career start, Tony Robinson completed 13 of 16 passes and Johnnie Jones ran for 203 yards and 3TDs in the Vols 34-27 opening day win vs Washington State.

Tony Robinson was one of my favorites to watch. When is TN going to finally realize that a dual threat QB is what it takes in the SEC. They are much harder to cover. And before someone says it, JG is NOT a dual threat. Hell my grandson could bring him down.

I was at that game. Everyone remembers Tony but Jonnie Jones is one of the most under-rated backs in the annals of Vol history. He was amazing to watch before his injury.

Tennessee hosted Colorado State after defeating Iowa in the “Kickoff Classic.” Jeff Francis, Reggie Cobb, William Howard, and Charles Wilson had rushing TDs and freshman Sterling Henton hit another freshman, Alvin Harper with a 45 yrd TD pass in the Vols 49-3 victory!
