Today’s game reminiscent of 98 championship season here’s why

Experienced qb. Tandem of awesome running backs. Awesome defense. Smart coach. If not this game this season could be a while till we are this close again.

Mike Keith said at the beginning of that season, "If not now, then when?" We were not a perfect team, but just went out and took each game one at a time. We had a little luck in game one - it could have went either way (Donovan McNabb was a beast!). Then, we had the miracle against Arkansas. The Florida State game was pretty much like game one, a toss up.

So, I guess I could say we are close to that situation this year. We do have some veteran players, and our talent level is rising. We do have a nice winning streak, if you count last year. So, we just need to either be the best team on the field, have the most effort on the field, and/or have it bounce our way a few critical times, and who knows?

I do think we are still a step or two below Georgia and Alabama, maybe Florida too. However, my opinion could easily change, in one way or another, after today. I think our qb needs to remain consistent (few turnovers or miscues), our OL needs to be dominant, and our RB's need to be able to get that critical yardage against the big boys, if we are to have a chance at a really successful season.

Hope so. It is way past time. Vols have lost 33 games in a row against Top 10 teams. Haven't won since 2006. Never thought it was that long. Stat was from ESPN. Get it done today.

nope. We came into that 98 game with better talent across the board. I think we beat them 22-9 that year.

This UT defense shouldn't even be mentioned in the same paragraph as the 98 defense. Conversely, this offense isn't nearly as loaded, either.
We have back up DB's that played 10 seasons in the NFL, from that defense. We were three deep, and talented at every position. Not so much the case currently. Although, I trust the process, and we will get there, and remain there, with Coach Pruitt, and hid staff.

2. Depth, talent, speed.
3. A QB who is a game manager
4. Strong o-line
5. Consistent running game
6. Fundamentally sound
