guys its starting to seem like phil recruited guys to the school more then him. if this is true, this would be a very classy move by CPF. we know he loves UT, but this would be on another level.

At this point in time our recruiting class doesn't mean too much at this point. I would consider it the 4th to 5th most important thing that we need to worry about. Even if a recruit wavers, there are others that will waiver this way to who we hire. Let's let the process work itself out and so will the class for this year and next. Next year's class is MUCH more important gauge on the hire we make based on selling the program as a whole even if we tank next season.

the only problem is, if we hire a coach who is currently working (and most the good ones are), then we won't get a bead on the coach until when?? i guess we could get them in 4-5 weeks, but could be after the bowl.......that's a long time for recruits to wait, if it's after January........

ESPN has quoted Butch Davis as saying he isn't interested.

he said he wasnt happy. what did you want him to say? he is in the middle of an ACC run. it would be stupid for him to say he is interested

I think you will see a huge bump in exposure and generally positive press if we can manage a home run hire (ala' saban). so if we can do that, recruiting will be just fine.

The way it works is that the coach tries to sell the player on Tennessee, but sell the parents on him. That's what Fulmer did so well. He could get any mom to be on his side in the discussion. When you convince a mom that you are trustworthy and are looking out for their son's best interest, both on and off the field, it will go a long way. While dad may be saying that his son should go to Texas or USC, mom is making sure that her son goes somewhere where she believe's he'll become a respectable man.
