I agree, got to stand by your guy. No need in thowing in the towel after game two.
Lets just be honest, i think the only people that could justify hating Crompton is the grounds crew at Neyland..

Im not a Crompton Fan. Im not a Stephens fan, however, I'm a realist and I knew coming in this year that we would struggle at QB. Yes the O-line struggled at times and the WR's blew routes, but the QB(Crompton) looked like a deer in headlights. Now as far as the Qb situation is concerned we are screwed. We have what we had last yr and Laimason, thanks for joining, is not this yrs answer either. This is going to be LONG season, so give the Coaching staff a bit of a break. They didnt recruit Crompton or Stephens. Hold judgement till at least another year or two. For those that were expecting a magical season, get over it. This is your team. We have no lower to go(unless we lose to Ohio or Memphis) so just hope for the best. Enjoy the season. Be glad college football season is back.. Even with the lost we picked up huge recruits this weekend.

It has gone past bashing. It's to that point where everyone, even those on radio, preface everything they say. (i.e. I'm not trying to bash or pile on, etc)

He just doesn't have it between the ears at all. He has showed nothing to make one think otherwise since last year's UCLA game. He's just not good, not good at all.

We needed a positive thread badly...

I would hope every Vol fan will dream of Crompton outplaying Tebow Saturday and the Vols stunning the #1 team in Gainsville...Even if it's just a dream...

He's 22 yrs old. If anyone feels the pressure it is him. He doesn't need thousands of people crashing down on him. If you've ever played a sport you know the harshest critic is yourself. That being said there comes a time when an outisder(Coach Kiffin) needs to explain that the game is more than athletic ability in practice, that it is the athletic performance combined with the mental performance in a Big Game situation. If the pressure is on and you cannot handle it as seen last weekend and all of last yr, then you need not take the field. The QB situation is dismal this year, but please, do not lose sight of the fact that he is still a 22 yr old kid.

Three offensive coordinators in three years have had tons of confidence in the guy, due to his play in practice.
Cutcliffe had him as the number two all long, last year he was unanimous number one going into the season, and then this year he again won it (due to his play in practice.)
And I feel like I'm not going anywhere with this but I was wanting to agree with you, and say practice there's not much pressure at all, but when he takes the field saturday he better be able to clear his head and focus on it play by play, I just feel like he gets the jitters.
Nothing against him on a personal level, but I would be happy to see how the others react in the game environment, while they may not perform at as high of a level as Crompton does in practice..

Agreed. Im all for at least seeing Stephens take a few series. Heck, I'd like to see Laimason take a few snaps. I know in my heart one of those two can hit a WIDE OPEN Jones.

its a shame because i feel for the kid. i mean i know he wants to do good so badly and i know he has worked hard. he has what it takes phy, but some things you just cant change. he buckles under preassure and that is somthing that is a deal breaker for a QB. he might practice better than stephens but stephens has a fire about him and seems to have alot of confidence even if he shouldint. i hate to bail on crompton but this mental problem he has could be devistating to our season and might effewct of great recruiting class....we cant have crappy offensive showings or some of these Off commits might look elsewhere

Draw straws, that's what Al Groh did with his three QBs when he couldn't decide.
The they proceeded to have 7 turnovers and lose to William & Mary.

On a side note, I'd say try to get Crompton in a rhythm with playactions easy throws...and if we get stuck, let Stephens have his shot, though I'm not sure if it should be against Florida.. maybe wait till Ohio.
We shall wait and see I presume.

Amen...we all need to support OUR VOLS no matter what happens!!! JC is our QB and we WILL be fine. This year was going to be a struggle no matter what guys--don't forget that. Our 2010 class is shaping up as definitely top 3-possible #1 overall so help is definitely on the way. With that help comes marked improvement and an obvious rise in talent. WE WILL BE BACK ON TOP~MUCH QUICKER THAN MOST THOUGHT TOO!!! GO BIG ORANGE!!!!

Folks, it's called a rebuilding period. With no serviceable QB or true deep threat WR and the DL getting thinner at DT, this is going to be a long season. Might as well forget about the W/L columns and just try to enjoy a well executed play every now and then. Next year it will be more fun because we'll have some new faces but it'll take them a season to get acclimated to the SEC. 2011 is the year to start expecting to compete again. Or, you can give yourself an ulcer.

I saw a replay of I think it was the last throw, where he spotted a gopher and tried to take it out...instead of leading the winning drive...He stepped up out of the pocket to throw and there was an opening to run so deep and wide you could've built a strip mall in it.

He could've run for the 1st down, easily and instead he tried to force yet another throw that wasn't there. I'm sure the coaches will point that out, but damn...do you really need someone to bring that to your attention?

Good Lord that is terrible. How could he not run the ball in that situation. This guy plays like an elementary QB.

I am down on Crompton but we have to get our expectations in the right place. This is the same team as last year plus a few true freshman players. And the freshman players beat out several of the juniors and seniors on the team. Our team was 5-7 last year, with new coaches and a few training camps, this team is not going to turn into Florida overnight. It will take at least a year or two for everything to gel and to get a new qb groomed for this system. Crompton and Stevens are damaged goods in my opinion, they are the products of the old coaching staff and all the changes and mentally they are just screwed up. Similar to Vince Young with the Titans.
I still believe that this coaching staff is the REAL DEAL. Just give them some time to get their players in there, we just got 2 5 stars and a 4 star commit after the game. And I do feel bad for Kiffin in regards to the playcalling, what do you call when Crompton is your QB??
