Thank you for your input this year. You both rallied the UT fanbase after the firing and hiring debacles. From McElroy complaining about empty Neyland to Booger saying we butchered this coaching search. I applaud you. While you are two upstanding men of rival SEC schools, you both know nothing of Tennessee or their inner workings. You want to criticize our administration, that's fine, you are full on right....but if you want to criticize our fanbase you are dead wrong...It is exactly that, that we are sick of, sick of rival fans and commentators telling us when to hire and fire our coach, sick of commentators criticizing our University, sick of you telling us how we should be a little more like Alabama and Lsu. WE ARE TENNESSEE, and lest you forget even after all of this crapstorm STILL number 2 alltime behind Alabama and ahead of Lsu. And we didn't get there by listening to either of you or your fanbases. 11/26/17 was a turning point in UT athletics and we will be better for it eventually, mark my words. GBO!!!

I can tell McElroy and Booger have never been in retail. Every retailer in the country knows exactly what perils lie in the social media. Every retailer also knows you don't ever do anything to light the fuse, ever!

Did they mention why Mississippi St. wouldn't touch Schiano?

haha of course not....he is chopped liver now that we have turned him down lol. Urban wants him back though. But truly, I am sorry for Schiano and us, neither deserved that. All opinions aside, it just should have never happened to begin with...was pretty ugly

McElroy actually defended TN fans today on cfb live

One of the few in the media that did with this whole Schiano thing

wow, a little surprised by it but I give McElroy his due, he is a knowledgeable and fair commentator, same as Booger. But I still disagree with Greg about empty neyland simply because they waited too long to fire Butch and definitely disagree with what Booger said today. But I am glad McElroy was able to see some truth in this past weekends events. It's usually Booger who does, but I guess he has jumped off the UT train

There were two guys [I don't know their names---one was black and one was white] on espn this morning around 9:00 am that blasted the fans, the athletic department, and basically UT as a whole. The black guy repeatedly said numerous times "it was criminal" that SchiaNO was denied employment, and the white guy was on "innocent until proven guilty."

The sad part is......if SchiaNO was hired and two years down the road someone or something was brought up about the Penn St scandal and SchiaNO [guilty or not] was implicated, this SAME MEDIA would throw UT under a convoy of buses because UT should have did a better job vetting its candidates especially for a high profile job such a head football coach. Unfortunately, it seems impossible to win with the media.

Personally, I would never, ever consider any coach that was on the Penn St Coaching Staff during the timeframe when Sandusky was there.

Exactly. A lot of the media currently running their mouth have already forgot, or never knew, about the title ix stuff and the Tyndall situation....and we definitely don't need anymore of that!

But ultimately what good came of firing Jones early? I get the fan reaction and would never criticize fans for staying home if they didn't think they would enjoy a day on campus and even to send a message but firing jones in October wouldn't have saved the season.

As of today, it appears you have a Currie problem. The fact that he failed to hire a search firm to begin vetting and contacting potential hires thru the back channels is almost malpractice and the only thing firing Jones before the end of the season did was to quench the thirst for blood and ensure that Jones would receive his entire buyout.

In my opinion, if they would have fired Butch earlier we wouldn't have seen a team that quit down the stretch. Sure, we still may not have made a bowl, but I doubt as many of the decommitts would have happened...and I also bet there would have at least been better showings against Kentucky, Missouri, and Vandy.

I think the team was done after the Bama game regardless and there weren't any real good options. I can see a lot of reasons to let a flailing coach go early but otoh hand I could see the wisdom in allowing him to finish the yr and have a back channel deal all but done.

The main thing that caused the uproar imo was Currie. Why on earth would the guy go dark without leaking some trial balloons and let the Grumors swirl and then spring a Schiano on a fan base expecting someone along the lines of a Gruden, Petersen or Patterson. He should have know it was going to take a major sales job to bring in Schiano.
