I've held this view for some time as well. Very good post.
When you consider that the Church,in the universal sense, has virtually allowed government to replace it in works of charity, money has become a much more corruptable force than any other vice or moral dilemma.
Many times ideas on social issues like abortion are actually driven by the welfare system. IE the inability to afford the child at the time.
Follow the money, be responsible in spending, and cut the corruption and you are on much firmer ground to "impose" moral standards.
If the Church Universal was acting in the spirit of Christ it would give away much more than it does today (both spiritually and monetarily).
Great post Lex.
