Who do you know and respect (not on this board, but someone you see face to face) who is leaning toward Obama? What reasons do they give you?

Same goes for those who lean Obama and know people who are leaning McCain.

I'll start.

Most Republicans I know are not too thrilled about McCain. But basically they are either staunchly pro-choice, staunchly pro-military, or staunchly in favor of having less of their money and their capital gains taken from them. That's basically it. It's not about Iraq, it's not about offshore drilling, it's not about Social Security or gay rights or any other issues.

my friends leaning toward Obama are all very bright and very educated people. They are also knee-jerk liberal types and primarily attorneys.

The only person I know and respect leaning towards Obama is my older brother. He has worked for the DOEnergy for 20+ years and I believe has been brainwashed into thinking government is the asnwer to anything. Talking to him about this subject made me want to puke.

I'll add, most long voting democrats I know, are not voting for Obama.

I can't stand McCain.............

It is really quite simple....... more freedom and less government......

Obama = more government and less freedom!

I'm not asking your opinion, Captain Freedom. I'm asking what you're hearing from respectful dissenters of your viewpoint.

I am leaning for McCain becuase he says he will act for more nuclear plants. Other than that, I dont like either one.

Basing every thing on my personal experiences with friends and co workers, the liberals tend to be very pessimistic and have a bleak out look on the world.

My Obama friends honestly think that he will bring change and unity to the country.

It shouldn't surprise any one really, these people are the kids of the flower generation.

I think we can offer more meat on this bone.

E.g., I'll add a direct quote from friends who are about 70 years old, lifetime Republicans, lifetime military - "It's like Reagan. He saved the military. And that's frankly why we'll vote for McCain. That's it."

He constantly and consistently bashes the country for being a horrible ignorant racist place......

that sounds like a good bit of editorializing on your part. honestly, what reasoning do they give for voting for Obama (right, wrong or indifferent) - from their mouths?

most of the reasoning tends to be really weak. It's most often about the fact that Obama isn't Bush.

They certainly struggle with the new taxes issue.

And by the by, bmfpv is much more levelheaded than you might imagine.

Is military service worth a vote?

I think what McCain went through was extraordinary but his view points on government make me sick.

and why is she leaning toward Obama?

I think she is tired of the attack ads. Both of us (fiscal conservatives) believe it may be in the best interests of the Republicans to lose this election. That way the party would have to shed the dead weight and get some new blood in there.

He is black, they believe he is smart, he is not W.
