Not that simple. Schools put a ton of pressure and offer some really good deals.

Not just a weekend at the cabin.
But this one recruit was dating a full grown nurse and the usual (cars money, apartment) now theres legal money involved and marketing deals. The nurse was part of the package.

I’m happy for the kids, but it’s a ton of pressure sometimes.
And yet, it seems only certain recruits commit multiple times.

This cat is a 5* in 247 composite. At worst a top 50 player in the country.

Which means Vandy would beat out a lot of big schools to get him.
Omarii Sanders is right there with him. Curtis, who they flipped from UGA.

Vandy showed it on the field, and we’ve done the opposite. Now, we‘re in a bad spot where we’re prob gonna have to overspend just to get to a baseline of acceptable competitiveness.

Losing one meaningless bowl isn’t that concerning. Within the context of an overall terrible trend— more so.

Vandy showed it on the field for 1 single year. And they didn’t even make the show.

We showed it last year by making the playoff.

Vols will be fine.

It was enough to give them some recruiting juice. When was the last 5 star QB Vandy signed?

Idk If we’ll be fine or not. We have high standards here. But I get it, Marco, you’re an optimist.

I mean, Vandy finished 32nd in the composite recruiting rankings last year. They had one 5 star, two 4 stars, and eighteen 3 stars.

The Vols finished 7th last year with two 5 stars, thirteen 4 stars, and twelve 3 stars.

I expect similar results this year. We good.

I know we’re prob good in relation to Vandy. That ain’t the rubric.

I’m just annoyed that they’re now creating battles in metro Nashville— a very important area for us. They have tangible momentum in recruiting but we will have an opportunity both on and off field to course correct with them. Heup should approach the next 2 years in an aggressive and proactive way. I expect that to start with 10+ portal additions, mainly on defense. Nothing ends careers here faster than losing to Vandy, and I want JH to be the guy but that’s just a fact.

That’s bc used to when you lost to them you were losing to a dogsh*t football team.

They were not that this year.

You’re right but I don’t see that nuance resonating with that much of the fan base. We wanna let this year be an outlier because it’s a specifically problematic dynamic reversal. Whatever kind of season we have in ‘26 it kinda needs to include a win at Vandy.
