Since I work in the Gulf of Mexico (oilfield), I am surrounded by, and am friends with, fans of damn near every SEC school. Aggies, tigers, other tigers with eagles, wild tigers, black and yellow tigers, red bulldogs, purple bulldogs, crazy cocks, pigs, rebels, and some un-forked family tree elephants. For the record, I've never met a Vandy fan in real life. We have a lot of fun out here ribbing each other but we are all still brothers and sisters.
With all that said, my social media feed is a veritable buffet of SEC sports links to articles for all the SEC schools (except Vandy). I found this link today. The first line shocked me: "Brian Kelly and LSU are going to be waiting longer before grabbing that signature win."
Wait... what? They were hoping Brian Kelly could pull off the win against TN and count that as a signature win? What in the wide wide world of sports is a-going on around here? I know the answer. I've seen it with my own eyes. I've heard the crowds. I feel the excitement. It's pervasive in Knoxville and with all our extended fan base. What I didn't expect was that others are now taking notice and CJH has turned this program into a signature win monster. That doesn't seem flash in the pan or lightning in a bottle-esqe. It seems like others believe this is sustainable. Otherwise, Kelly beating TN would be like us beating KY at their all time best years - expected.
I'm just happy I get to experience this. I lived this in the 80's and 90's. I'm ready for some roaring 20's....
