'26 TN S Craig Tutt (Ole Miss)

I'm fairly certain Martinez only coaches Corner and star. Banks coached safeties. They brought in an analyst this year from the NFL (Alan Williams) that helps with safeties now as well.
The problem isn’t safety coaching. It’s that we refuse to spend any money on safeties. That needs to change. I’m not saying break the bank. But it needs to be more of a priority.

Well it's not irrelevant when Willie is in charge of secondary acquisition and the overall secondary. Tennessee is always going to be getting long, athletic DBs that can recover quickly and play all over secondary under him. Tutt is undersized and a strong safety
When did CJH define CWM as key to safety recruiting or coaching? Please provide the documented sourcing of your position.

If you can’t it did not happen and your credibility will take yet another significant hit.

I disagree with this and other takes. The portal is important but time has shown it's not coach JH favorite way. His priorities are recruiting and developing, JH is going to sign 8 -10 from the portal Tutt may be a strong safety type, but we have a serious need for that also. We need to take the good ones and let spring/fall practice sort them out,we need depth.

Do you know where this kids head is as far as VFL desire? For immediate help the portal is your best shot for day 1 value, especially with demonstrated need.

Is that true? S in last class Sidney Walton’s primary recruiter (according to 247) was Tim Banks.

Combay primary WM but secondary Banks.

KJ McClain primary Banks.

Luke Thompson primary Banks.

Very true, but we still need good HS to develop when those 2 year or even 1 year players leave.

Our safety room is so awful in talent and depth that we need 2 portal safeties and a flip of Tutt or someone else along with keeping everyone else in our class. McClains brother at Ohio State would be awesome. And another guy.

I’ve said this many times so apologies but this entire season was ruined because of Tim Banks not preparing his side of the ball properly.

I didn't disagree with wanting him here. Was just explaining why I don't see them doing anything to try to flip him

And Glen Elarbee was the primary recruiter for OL I bet bc that was the position he was listed at. Everything in recruiting is a collective effort, especially now with collectives, but WM is the one really building relationships early on and finding his type of DBs it feels like most the time. Now they need to be getting better safeties no doubt. Players connect with coaches on campus a ton obviously, so it's not like they just don't do anything

Looking back thru commitment/OV interviews, Martinez was the primary coach brought up by Thompson and Combay. Idk about KJ, but Banks probably was. That would make sense with McClain being a northeast guy

VFL?? And why would he be less inclined than a portal player? That's a really dumb argument.
He either does or does not have innate desire to be a Vol as an instate guy. Just wanted some insight if any poster really knew. How many hats, T-shirts, and jerseys did he have growing up? Games attended? More important than his residence state. It is part of his fact set. Are we not prioritizing a guy that really grew up wanting to be here?

His priority as a HS recruit does not the change the probability that an equally talented but experienced portal target COULD fill a need faster.

It appears we would benefit from a mix.
