TN only 7th in SEC in Talent

What do you mean by "all"?

If you mean the entire program then sure Tennessee football won't end if we fail to win 10-11 games next year.

However, any idea we would be returning to the glory of the 90s and competiting for national titles every year would surely end. Recruiting would fall off, a lot of our best talent will go to the NFL, and we would go back to being an inexperienced team with subpar talent compared to our rivals.

Tennessee would return to being a punching bag and joke.

2016 is as good as it will EVER get. If Butch can't deliver this year, HE NEVER WILL.

I guess when you still count your fandom in months you would think like this.

Well since we are speaking in ultimatums, I'm
Going to say even if we don't go 10 wins that we WILL return to the glory years of the 90s.

Eventually we will. If Butch goes 8-4 or 9-3 with a team this good, it's not going to happen on his watch.

This "good team" was two plays and 21 points from being 6-6. They are talented but going 9-3 is no loss with this team.

What do you base this opinion on? The facts are the program has progressed every year under Butch. A 9-3 season this year will still be progress.

No. That would be an epic failure.

It would essentially mean we stayed the same. We would go 1-3 against our 4 toughest SEC opponents. Remember in 2015 we played Oklahoma. A much tougher opponent than Va-Tech this year. So the only difference between 2015 and 2016 would be an easier out of conference opponent.

9-3 is no progress.

I think "epic failure" is a little extreme, but I agree that three conference losses would be disappointing after all the hype this team is getting.

Yeah Missouri sure did have them top ranked classes right? Oops...

Sometimes I think we also give the SEC too much credit on here (excluding Alabama, of course)... TCU hasn't signed a class higher than #29 since 2012. They would have more than held their own vs the SEC the last two years and they did beat Ole Miss 42-3 in the 2014 Peach Bowl.

Anyone can win one game. I doubt TCU could survive in the SEC year in year out recruiting at that level.

Missouri is a nice test case. They came into the SEC with a bang winning 2 divisional titles in their first 3 years. Lets see what they do going forward. If they return to that level of success your theory might be right.

I personally think you're wrong. And I expect Missouri to keep struggling if they don't recruit better.

Tennessee's largest margin of defeat for the season was a game which went to double overtime. They had a lead with 5 minutes to play in every game but Arkansas (who they also lead by 14 points)... They also return every key contributor. It is pointless to downplay expectations.

These are not bad points at all. The SEC is brutal. Typically 3 or 4 of the top 5 in recruiting are SEC teams, and of course bammer buys the best they can every single year.

Talent wise we are not going to dominate the four teams he mentions. I think in two cases - Florida and Tamu - the development and attrition do give us a big advantage, so I do expect us to go 10-2.

There are some saying we should do better. They should pump the brakes.

But recruiting isn't what matters. Remember? It's all about the coach. SMH
