I think we will sign at least one guy like this, an edge guy who could prob play DE with a little weight.

chandler is right that we will prob do it late when we have a better idea of which DL are staying and going next year.
Maybe. But if we get one late, it would have to be a guy who is early impact to warrant not just waiting for the portal.

I think we’ll sign a guy like this regardless. It’s really hard to predict what will happen with a single player when he gets here much less an entire position group. I expect some attrition from that big class last year when the hierarchy starts to sort itself out.

I think you’re right that they’d rather just get an elite ranked guy like Jacobs. But they don’t really grow on trees. Add 1 pass rusher type minimum with Mays for this HS class or you risk exacerbating existing depth issues, imo, bc none of the 26 class guys are proven commodities rn.

We reportedly cancelled his OV here. Not sure the backstory but I doubt we get involved here.
Maybe not this kid, tho he‘d be a take in other years I think. Need a pass rusher in the class tho and I think their efforts with Jacobs show they intend to get one.

I think it all depends on cost. I don’t know this for a fact, but it seems like we were interested in Jackson, then we weren’t. Felt a lot like the cost went up beyond what we’re willing to pay for a guy who isn’t instant impact.

If you can get a Jacobs, you get him because he would see the field early. Otherwise, if you’re taking a guy who won’t see the field early, he’d better be cheap. That’ll be hard to find because it just take one school to overpay.

So I don’t think we’re taking an Edge just to have one in the class. We as fans of recruiting are going to have to adjust to this new approach.

It's almost like college recruiting is a combination of normal recruiting+ NFL Free Agency.

Very hard to get get excited or upset with what's going on.

You just literally never know in CFB.

Didn’t take guys like Breeze, Gooden, Golston to be immediate impact but one or two of those guys is gonna get thrown in there, because things happen.

I just really wouldn’t neglect an entire position group. 1 DE/Edge type guy to build SEC depth, not just to have. Don’t have to be Antwan Jackson… I think we will revisit DL later in the cycle.

That was last year. This year, we’re taking a much smaller class. And DLine isn’t a need since we took 7 in the last class. But the main thing is, we’re going heavy on portal and retention. We may not hit 20 high school recruits. The ones we sign will either be elite recruits (DGG) or guys we value for the price.

We’re just not spending money on high school recruits this year.
Last year we had 4 lower tier commits at this point. That was my point for anyone saying “i don’t like our d line recruiting right now”.
