Tennessee impresses Collierville standout

Collierville defensive edge Antwan Jackson was back on Rocky Top this weekend for 865Live and detailed his experience with Volquest.

“Oh, it was fun,” Jackson said. “It was good getting around the coaches and getting around the guys, good competitions with the games and stuff like that. So it was a good day.

“It’s just not all about football over here. I mean, because eventually football is going to be over. Sometimes you need the relationships with people, and just be able to have fun. And I like that, I’m saying, we was able to do that.”

He spent time with Rodney Garner and playing for the veteran SEC coaching legend is very attractive.

“I like Coach Garner,” Jackson said. “He’s a really good coach. When I was training with James (Pearce), me and James talked about him a lot, so, and he’s been coaching in the SEC for a long time, so he got a lot of experience with the game and players like me.
He also likes his relationship with Andrew Jackson.

“We got a we got a good relationship,” Jackson said. “We always talking and it just never slowed down ever since he got the Tennessee. So his first day he started recruiting me. So I really, I really liked the consistency with his recruitment.”

He also loved getting to see Josh Heupel in this setting.

“You know, a lot of times head coaches are always the serious ones, they always the ones you don’t really see them having too much fun. But yeah, it was good to see him doing that.”

Jackson will now turn his attention to official visits where he will see Alabama, Missouri, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

“I’m really just looking forward to one of my main things and that’s really just getting around the city and just getting the feel of how it feels to live in that city,” Jackson said. “Things like that and just keep getting a chance to build some relationships with some players. The players that are already there in and the players that they plan on bringing and things like that just keep in my relationship with the coaches. After my OV’s, I’ll make a decision.”

This was an important unofficial visit for four-star EDGE Antwan Jackson

Tennessee has done a nice job of making Collierville EDGE Antwan Jackson feel like a priority in recent months. Despite being an in-state recruit, Jackson had only been on campus one other time prior to Saturday’s visit. So for the Vols, this was another important visit to give him the opportunity to be more comfortable around the program and get a better feel for things ahead of official visits. Jackson was able to spend plenty of time around the Vols coaching staff, and he enjoyed the festivities around 865 Live as well.

Sometimes it’s good to be the first visit and sometimes it’s good to be the last visit. In this case, Tennessee will be the first school that he visits during this run because he did it unofficially and then he will close out the string of visits with Tennessee’s official visit on June 19th.

Now, when he returns to campus for his official visit in a couple of weeks, there will be a lot more familiar faces around the program for him.

Matt Ray mentioned Mizzou as a legitimate threat for him on the pod today.

He said we are sending in new commit Kenny Simon and old commit JP Peace in to seal this thing.
I will be so f’ing pissed if we lose this guy to Mizzou. I really couldn’t be that bothered if it was to anyone else.

Why oh why do people STILL doubt CRG’s recruiting ability. Look at the last 4 years of d line and edge recruiting. Hell throw in 2021 while you’re at it. Freaking out about losing any recruit, especially defensive linemen’s is silly. Hell just 6 months ago on signing day we had 4 new commits on the d line day of
