Corner IMO. Him/kid from Westview and Walden Jr. Great corner class, all TN boys added to the all TN boys from last cycle. Entire corner room will soon be all TN kids
I tend to think there's an extra level of commitment from in-state kids. Extra motivation. Could be wrong.

Very good Athletic school, Drew Maddux and Ron Mercer played Basketball at Goodpasture. Mercer transferred to Oak Hill for his Senior year..
Baseball team was very good a couple years ago. Somehow lost in championship, but knocked us out. They could not contain this Kentucky commit in either game. Ngl I don't think some of those Power Conference commits were that good, but Carson Rucker was a stud

Goodpasture doesn’t have a hard schedule through September.
What happens when you play in DII-AA and are not in the East Region. They will go 7-3 again (Ls to BGA, FRA and DA) and then lose early in postseason. Best chance to get money's worth is to see Goodpasture play BGA where you can see Slim Leavell, Maddox Porter, Max Curry, Koehn Dial

I hope so considering how we've shifted from prodominately Georgia recruits at DB to in state kids.
Signed 4 in-state DBs last class. This staff has recruited Georgia and has gotten the leftovers aside from Mike Matthews. Knowles and the secondary coaches have been identifying guys that fit his scheme and most of those are from the state of Georgia. They are still going to take guys in-state that are good enough to take a shot on. Tennessee has just been taking shots on guys that won't play and now they are taking shots on guys that could down the road. That's why people are noticing. This new defensive staff wants to hit mid Ga hard and it is a good thing as that's where your top practical talent comes from primarily.

The Scout

“Slim does a lot of things well,” Goodpasture Christian School Head Coach Tyler Turner told Volquest. “I think the main thing is he is very coachable. He is selfless. He just comes to work every single day. He has great hips and is very explosive. He has a 42-inch vertical. He is long, rangy, and with his length, it makes him hard to deal with at cornerback.”

“It is hard not to just talk about his character when you talk about him. He is just the most likable kid in the school. The teachers love him. He is a great teammate. Every college that has come in here, I have said to them, this will be the most low-maintenance skill guy you have ever had. He is just even-keel. He is never too high or too low. He is super consistent, and his consistency is what makes him better because every day he comes out ready to work. And that is why he has continued to grow every day and every year. He has just gotten so much better than when he first got here.”

Leavell still has plenty of room to continue developing, and Turner believes he is just getting started in his football journey.

“Well, last year was his first year playing corner,” Turner said. “So, he has always been a safety and a receiver. At the end of last year, my first year at Goodpasture, I called Slim in for our end-of-year evaluation, and I asked him, ‘What is your goal?’ and he told me his goal was to play big-time, Division 1 football. And I said, I am going to move you to corner. I think he is going to be better for us this year (at corner) than he was his first year, just because last year he was learning the position. So, I think the sky is the limit for him.”

What does Leavell’s commitment mean for Tennessee

Leavell is not a flashy ranking win, but he is an important win for Tennessee. The Vols believed in him early, which allowed them to land his commitment ahead of a slate of official visits. Tennessee beat out Florida, Florida State, North Carolina State, and Clemson, among others. The Gators got Leavell to campus recently, and they appeared to be a real threat in the recruitment heading into official visitors, while all of the other programs have kept close tabs on Leavell this spring.

Leavell is a dynamic playmaker, and he has the ability to slot in at multiple positions inside of Tennessee’s secondary, which is another key reason the Vols wanted to keep him home. His recruitment surged for months, but Anthony Poindexter stayed consistent in the process, and he played a vital role in the Vols landing Leavell’s commitment.

Goodpasture defensive back Slim Leavell saw his recruitment blow up back in the winter. With several big-time schools coming hard, he saw his recruitment end on Monday evening when he picked Tennessee.

“I think the relationships that I have there and what they can do for me as far as developing me into, for one obviously a great football player, but to a better person than somebody who can potentially be successful,” Leavell said. “I believe that Tennessee is the right fit for me, and with them being basically my hometown team or home state team, I believe Tennessee is a perfect opportunity for me to chase my dreams.”

Tennessee has recruited the 6-foot-2 Leavell as a corner but they also know he can play just about anywhere in the secondary.

“Something that emphasizes like I said, development, just what they can do,” Leavell said. “I had a great conversation with Coach Jones that he was talking to me about how he developed and how he developed guys and what I’ve seen from those guys so far and where they came from. I believe that those secondary coaches are some of the best in the business.”

Tennessee defensive coordinator Jim Knowles also impressed Leavell, who is set to officially visit Tennessee this weekend.

“Coach Knowles, he’s a great guy first off,” Leavell said. “When I had a conversation with him when I went up to visit, he told me a lot about what he can do for me and basically said that I’m a priority to them and I really believe it. Just what Coach Knowles has for me and what he can do for me gets me excited to play for him.”

Then there is head coach Josh Heupel, who also impressed him with his approach.

“Coach Heupel, he’s a great guy as well,” Leavell said. “I just had a conversation with him not too long ago and just telling him that I was fully committed and he was very excited about me. He’s another guy that really prioritized me and he’s definitely somebody I can go to about anything.”

And getting to have that conversation and tell him that he was coming to Rocky Top was something he will never forget.

“Oh, it was amazing,” Leavell said. “When I told him, he got really hyped and he said that they’re excited for me and that I won’t regret any of it and that when I come on the visit, I’ll really enjoy it. I’ll be able to get a great experience there.”

Leavell chose Tennessee over Florida, Florida State, Clemson and North Carolina State. Playing for his state meant something to him.

“It means a lot to me,” Leavell said. “Being in the state and watching them growing up, Tennessee football, it’s been somewhere that I’ve really wanted to be. And with them being able to recruit me and offer me a scholarship, it changed my life. It changed me completely and that was actually the 1st power four offer that I got. So then being the 1st one. It meant a lot to me.”

How Slim Leavell had a different visit experience as Tennessee football commitment

Goodpasture athlete Slim Leavell was in Knoxville this past weekend for his Tennessee official visit. It came just days after committing to Tennessee and so naturally the vibe was different for him.

“It was fun,” Leavell said. “The environment was energetic and of course me being committed was more of a family thing. Me being around the coaches and building relationships with the front office. It was a very surreal experience.”

Leavell went from recruit to recruiter as he tried to help the staff land some players that were here.

“I know a few guys that are looking at Tennessee so I think I can help the coaches,” Leavell said. “I told them what Tennessee can do for me and how it could be them. I’m committed here and I believe Tennessee is a place that can really develop me and so I tell them that and that’s the biggest thing.”

Leavell hung out with Josh Heupel, Anthony Poindexter and Derek Jones. He got to compete against them on the visit and also just continue to build relationships with each coach.

“I had a great time with them,” Leavell said. “To be here during 865 Live was different because I got to be in a group and compete and it wasn’t all about football. It was a great time.”

Tennessee is home for Leavell

He didn’t have to hear a recruiting pitch this weekend and it just gave a different feel being around the staff as a future Tennessee Volunteer.

“No pressure,” Leavell said. “I feel very relieved and I’m excited about what is to come. It solidified my decision. I knew I was going to have a great experience so it just showed me what I knew, which is this is home.”

Leavell won’t take anymore visits and considers himself done with the recruiting process after Clemson, Florida and others made a strong push until the end.
