Wasn't sure the best forum to put this on so chose this one as I believe it has the most posters. This is a big deal. UF has had a strangle hold on this for yrs. Used to be called the SEC All-Sports trophy. Kudos to AD White all the sports coaches. We are not a FB or BB school, we are a SPORTS school.

Tennessee Athletics Were The SEC's Best In 2021-22 School Year | Rocky Top Insiderwww.rockytopinsider.com

I'm sure everyone would take being a FB school over being a sports school.

Football is part of being a sports school. Being good in every sport is pretty nice. But maybe you know everyone.

Football is the only important sport. It doesn't mean you don't want other sports to win but if they don't, it doesn't bother you since it isn't important enough to bother you, unlike football.

Whole lotta college athletes--most of them not football players--who believe the sport THEY participate in to be the most important.

Whole lotta college parents who feel like their daughters' and sons' sports are the most important.

And then there are fans who have a favorite sport other than football. Tons of those, too (just go visit the basketball, lady Vols, and baseball fora).

I mean, we're talking thousands and thousands of people.

Football is my sport, my passion. Apparently like yours. But I have enough awareness to realize it would be myopic to think "football is the only important sport." And I care enough for the lads and lasses who wear orange as Volunteers to believe they're all important.

I get that, its the #1 revenue sport and my favorite to. Saying we are sports school was not ranking them in importance but its nice to be competitive in all sports.

Of course people see the sport they play in as more important or their kid's sport. I'm saying that when you take personal associations like those out football is the one important sport. Football recruiting draws more interest than any other actual sport. The conference is expanding due to football interest. Some sports, women's sports, only exist due to govt requirements.

Dont remember the Buzz years I see......I like seeing Tennessee win in everything. I agree with Woodruff whenhe built the SEC's top athletic department & said "they all wear orange".

I said we all like to see teams win, but it isn't a big deal if they don't if it isn't football. I can say that there has never been a BB loss that ever bothered me for more than 5 minutes. Football is a totally different animal.

Do you see the problem in what you've been saying? Right here, in this last post, you're describing how the world is for you. Personally. Just you. As a Vols fan.

And that's awesome. I respect your point of view. Even share it.

But back in post #29, which is when folks first started disagreeing with you, and then continuing in post #33, you claim to speak for everyone. You make blanket claims, like you're sure everyone would prefer football success over all other kinds, and that football is the only important sport.

If you'd not tried speaking for everyone, everyone wouldn't be pushing back. As it is, you've got even us fellow football fans saying, "hey, wait a minute, give other Vols fans their due, too."

Umm, wasn't Phil the Athletic Director at UT? Just figured that there had to be some carryover, as this basically occurred under his watch, right?
Umm. He was AD less than four years and was fired. He made one of the worst hires in UT football history. He took a "buyout" in the middle of a pandemic while coaches were asked to take pay cuts. I know it's bait, but there are a lot of people out there who worship Fulmer.

Well TN can now claim 2 SEC championships this season, one in men's BB and now BB, and a good chance of a NC in BB. If FB was the only sport anyone cared about at TN we would have won nothing this season and will still be waiting for Saban to retire to have a chance at an SEC title. I for one am glad we are not just a FB school and have good teams to pull for in the winter and spring. (I hope FB comes back soon, still my favorite TN team but like all the success of the other sports.)
