doesn't like going to class. Very likely not eligible for bowl game and would not have been for next year.
misses his kid and homesick.
He likes the staff and likes his team mates. Happy in the offense. Has been hurt. Just doesn't like the school part.
Academics could be an issue for him going elsewhere. Most likely ends up at a UT-Chattanooga type school if he plays at all in the future.
In 50 years of following the Vols and college football have seen things like this hundreds of times. Some kids just don't have the desire to commit to what it takes to be a big time or even a small time, college football player. No reason to think Evans will change.
The manner in which he went about it matters. This could have waited until Sunday, when the regular season will be over... or hell, even tomorrow night? It sure does look like he was seeking some attention from this. It appears that he didn't just want to leave the team, he wanted a high profile exit. There is justification for some criticism here.Ah, there's are beloved "fans" trash talking a kid because they left a football team. Grow the **** up.
Not in terms of play... he isn't needed to beat Vandy. It's hard not to see the timing as a ploy for attention... and it's not that common for leading rushers to bail. In my opinion, this was calculated. He should have waited until after the game.If he doesn’t want to go to class, there’s not much anybody can do. If he’s not going to handle his business, that’s on him. As far as timing goes, I doubt it matters. He really hasn’t been a factor in the last 4 or 5 games so I doubt the team gives it a second thought. And especially since transfer portal announcements are as common as gunfire in Memphis. Part of the college football landscape nowadays.
I guess what is the take for this year, 25 Max or not.
Thanksfrom what I've seen 20-22 high school or Juco and fill out the 25 with transfers. Then they could also add transfers for 7 players that transfer out.. but, current roster would need adjustments.
there are currently 76 scholarship players on the roster.
7 super seniors are finished plus Taylor and Cade Mays are going to NFL. So that leaves 67 scholarship players scheduled to return as of today.
SO if they want 25 signees plus 7 transfers for 32 new players, then are going to have to lose 14 more players from current numbers. That 14 either transfers, goes to NFL or quits playing football. But 14 have to come off that current 67.
I suspect they don't lose 14 more so they end up taking less than 32. That is just a guess on my part.
