I don't understand how we can compare the 2 teams....They are nothing alike...Dooley's team hit a brick wall and stopped(with Fulmer's and Kiffen's players)....and went down from there as he brought in lower tier players....with Dooley lets just say he messed up alot of relationships, and he really did not understand or respect UT as whole.

With Butch he is bringing back the passion, SEC caliber players, everyday UT as a whole is getting better... not just our team....UT was broken and she is coming back....I have been a fan for over 30 years....and I am seeing some great things happening..He is slowly but sure making Tennessee relevant again....If anybody cannot see the fight and will to win in these young men, are not paying attention, but the other teams are seeing it.....We just have to tell our selves....you cannot plant a seed today and tomorrow go out and expect fruit from the seeds you planted yesterday...it takes time....There is a lot of great things happening.....just be patient and support these young kids as they are going to experience growing pains....let them have the comfort that we are not going to abandon them and for us to be there watching them grow up into young men......

Jones has been compared to Dooley by different people, for different reasons.

Never have understood why anyone would compare the two people or their situations. Apples and oranges.

The comparison is in the most important thing of all.... wins. Dooley inherited a wreck. He failed to turn it around. Jones inherited a very tough draw as well.... and so far he hasn't turned it around to start winning meaningful games either.

All the stuff you site is good. Planting seeds, making investments, and all that are good. I won't stop being a Vol fan and doubt many here will. But at some point you have to make a quantitative.... qualitative judgment on whether your "gardener" has planted and tended the garden correctly.

The thing that I am most critical of and disappointed with is that Jones has been on the job for two years, known that he would be replacing the entire OL this season, and hasn't produced a better result than we've seen. They've had time to prepare. They certainly had time to ID and recruit JUCO's if they didn't think they had the bodies. Are none of the guys who've been around since Jones arrived or came in his first class good enough to be contributing after two years in his development program?

I am also frankly disappointed with his continuing reference to "name someone else starting two Fr on the OL". No one is forcing him to start them. He's decided that they are better options than the guys who have been around longer. He had a two year window to get those guys ready. The choice to start those young guys belonged to no one but Jones himself.

Excellent analysis

Some use the comparison to show similarities.
Others are using it to make themselves feel better about Jones.

I think most see it as the first not realizing they use Dooley as the stick to show we are better.

MHO. Dooley is not standard in any shape or form. From recruiting, coaching, and PR among other things. If he is in the comparison in any form then Jones has not distanced himself far enough and you still have a problem, albeit not as big.

It's a comparison born of emotions after a really bad loss, but it's easy to understand why it happens. Dooley was inarguably the worst head coach in UT football history.....Jones is the new guy we're all hoping will be "the guy".... yet early on, details be damned, the awful coach has won more games at the same point than the guy who's supposed to get it all turned around. Fair or not, the comparisons will continue until Jones shows he's up to the job and actually starts winning games. Just the way it is.

I dont think Butch is bad. I just think his supporting cast is. Dooley was a joke. I will say this, if Butch doesnt get a better staff with him, it could cost him his job.

Dooley was a failure. So far the on the field results of Jones have not been any better.... the comparison is valid until JONES makes it invalid.

When jones has been here as long as him and nothing has changed then you all can line up on the edge of the cliffs. Until then let the guy keep recruiting and doing his job!

Dooley's teams regressed on the field, off the field and the staff regressed on the recruiting trail.

Butch's team is improving on the field, off the field and the staff is killing it on the trail.

No comparison makes any sense when you look at more than just the surface.

Butch is nothing like Dooley as a coach...let's just hope his record backs that up...SOON.

Very, very well said. Their style is different. Their methods are different. Jones' personality and "vision" have certainly made him a far more formidable recruiter.... but at the end of the day... he still has to win games... and especially like the ones this past Saturday.

He's gonna continue to recruit and do his job regardless.

There were plenty of people making comparisons and opinions about Dooley in his second year, Im not sure why this should be viewed any different.
