Tips on how to get out of jury duty

Is your district policy one day or one trial?

If so, you will report to a pool of prospective jurors. Either you will be chosen for interview to serve, or you’ll spend the day in the pool waiting area.

During the interviews, one prospective juror stated that the defendant looked familiar to him. When asked if he could be impartial, he replied that he didn’t think so. The defense attorney excused him.

I suspect that this prospective juror was lying about the familiarity of the defendant and was trying to get out of serving on a jury.

When the judge asks if anyone cannot serve ... raise your hand and when the judge calls on you... tell them you think that everyone is guilty no matter what. If they got arrested they must have done it..... pretty sure any defense attorney will strike you from the list.

Hope this helps.

If you have a job that cannot operate without you being there without detriment to the organization you can write/email the court contact with a thorough justification then you may get excused. I got out of it last year and have got employees excused in the past also. Might be worth a try if you have this scenario.

For an attempted murder case, the jury pool was told the case was an attempted murder via handgun.

The defense asked me a question about additional punishment for crimes committed via firearms and I said "I think the death penalty should apply to attempted murders as well. Shouldn't be rewarded for being a bad shot."

Yeah, the defense made sure I wasnt selected.

Mrs Wireless, when the judge asked if they had any questions, what time they would get out, judge asked her why she ask, she said she watched 3 kids after school, he immediately dismissed her to the chagrin of the company president and general manager who thought their jobs were too important to serve

I got summoned once in Hartwell, GA. Poaching case. "Yes, I hunt and was taught by my grandfather what being an outdoorsman means." Got picked to immediately serve on the 6 member trial that promptly started. Although my expressed opinions of poachers are quite, quite low and I truly felt he was guilty I also expressed in our jury consult that I'd like to follow my gut, but the DA didn't give anything I could allow myself to vote guilty.

I ain't dumb. I took that case and got out. The next case up for selection was for a murder trial that lasted 6 weeks.

Then I got summoned like the next three years consecutive, and contested each one cause there's 15K residents in the county and I just served on a trial and there's no logical way I can keep getting summoned after having actually served, and got each dismissed then quit getting summoned.

The alternative is to state you think everyone is guilty or they wouldn't be here. You'll be excused and counted as having served.

Been in my current super small TN county now since 2014. Got summoned 1 time. Cases that day were settled or plea bargained. Got counted as served and have never received another so far.

A drug dealer went to jail because of me. We were allowed to write down questions during the trial and they were given to the judge. He actually asked one of mine and it turned the case against the guy.
We had fraudsters that staged accidents and tried to sue this poor li'l woman and her deep pockets insurance. We picked apart their bulls*** case.

A former colleague professed to me that he enjoyed serving on juries and wanted to be foreman. After he related his disappointment at not being chosen to be foreman and the difficulties he visited upon the serving foreman, it was apparent that he desired power over others and relished the idea of deciding someone’s fate - exactly the wrong person to serve as a juror.

Tell ‘em your racist
Last time I went in for Jury Duty, that is exactly what two people stood up and said to the judge. The judge laughed at them, as did everyone else, due to the fact everyone involved was white. I was let go because I went to high school with the arresting officer.

And an uncommonly high rate of cancer. 90% of the funerals we attended as managers for empoyees or employee families were cancer. Everything we see on facebook of who has passed...cancer. something's strange in Hartwell. Lake water?? Who knows. To this day you're still advised to not eat fish that are caught above the "big water." On the clemson side (Seneca River) before the two rivers join, there was contamination back in the 60's or 70's. Even after the two rivers come together you still drift down for a bit before it's considered the Big Water. I lived there 16 years and had my boat for a while. Never knowingly ate any fish from that lake.
