Is he being pushed out "being asked to look elsewhere" or is his latest comments legit?

Comments after Southern Miss visit below:

Has his commitment to Tennessee changed? “I am going to sit down and talk with my father about it, and see where that leads me,” he said, possibly leaving the door open to a change to Southern Miss.

“The people were so together and just friendly,” he added. “They are really like a family, and that blew me away because I didn’t expect it. It was the people overall that I just loved.”

Thomas plans to make a final decision about his commitment before his signing day.

I've been saying that Thomas would be one of the three most likely asked to look around. But the board, of course, completely flamed the idea. I'm not saying he is/was asked to do that, but there is simply no way an athlete picks USM over UT especially given UT's need at DB.

interesting. is it bad that i hope a few people are "asked to look around" so the door can be open to others? we are in on a LOT of big prospects.

Agree! I'm not starting any rumors but I thought his comments were weird this late in the game and especially Southern Miss.

i'm hoping a few are asked to look around. We're looking good for too many good players right now.

but why would he put it that way if they asked him to look around? if i was a recruit, and my school did that to me, id be angry and bitter. This almost makes it seem like hes trying to play it off like hes the one deciding to look elseware.

Idk about you but i wouldn't tell people that I was on the chopping board. Save a lot of embarrassment

If you got laid off but then started another job, would you make it sound like the first job didn't want you any more? Or would you make it sound like you'd decided to move on to another great opportunity?

What else this shows me is what other big programs think of Tino Thomas. His next best offers appear to be MSU and Arky.

Arky already has 28 commits and MSU has 24...including 4 DB's. Certainly seems like he was told something if he's seriously considering USM.

Exactly......being told to look around to an 17-18 year old kid is a shotgun at point blank range to a youngster's ego. You don't want it known that you were decent enough to be offered but not good enough to sign that LOI.

thats a good point, but in that situation its almost like you need to sell yourself as an employee. Hes already got an offer from them...its not like they are going to pull his offer if they find out we didnt want him.

Maybe he was asked to Grey shirt or walk-on... now he needs to think about it.

I also think that our staff may feel some recruits will waver. Thomas being one example. Good reason to keep recruiting full steam ahead.

The only problem I have with this if he is being ask to look around is that he is a Memphis kid and we are trying to get back into play with Memphis kids so this wouldn't look right with other kids and Memphis HS coaches. But, let see what happends, could be just some comments for nothing!!!!
