I want to make it clear upfront that I am just as upset as the next fan on the past two year’s results. Like many others, I too have asked for Dooley to be fired after his two dismal years as coach. Now that I have said that, I am one willing to admit that I may have been wrong or hasty in my calling for his head.

Ever since the Kentucky loss, I have watched Dooley and how he has went about correcting the situation of the UT football program. Like a true leader, Dooley addressed some shortcomings and made some tough but necessary changes to the coaching staff. I know that some on here will say that Dooley had nothing to do with these changes and that it was Hart who made the calls. There will also be some say that it was not Dooley but rather coaches jumping ship that caused the staff change over. I will agree that Hart has probably had his hand in some of the decisions regarding the staff; however I must take Hart at his word and believe that he left the staff decisions to Head Ball Coach. So far Dooley has made what I think to be nothing but improvements accross the board. I know others will disagree, that is your right.

I have come to the decision that there are some that will call for Dooley’s head regardless and say that he is out of his league. Again, I was one of these guys in the past. Regardless of how/why he was the one given the job, it is his and some people with much more power than any of us on VN have agreed to let him try and return UT back to the glory days. In the end it does not matter how much we complain, groan, or call for his job. The people with much more to lose will continue to make the decisions and we just need to have enough trust that they are truly trying to build the program.

I for one believe the time has come to let the past reside in the past and that we as fans get on board with what Dooley is trying to do here. As much as it pains us as fans, you have to agree that as the HC, Dooley hates that we are losing much more. He spends countless hours with these young men and in many cases sees them as his family and no one wants to see their family fail. I know that some will drop the hammer on me for this, if you must you must. I for one am tired of attacking my Big Orange brothers and sisters and ask that we forget the past and focus on what tomorrow holds.

If you must reply, please try to be tactful as this thread is not meant to cause strife among fans.

I am totally with you, and sometimes it feels that people with this viewpoint are in the minority. In fact, I don't think they are. The minority is just more vocal.

That said...there have been several of these threads, and this may not even be the first one you've started recently. You reach a point where it's really just not worth talking about until October. Then we'll see.

I agree completely... I've liked the Dooley hire from the start, but have believed that he deserves 4-5 years to have the program completely and realistic turned around... Which I believe he is on track to do

Everyone has to be patient, and give him reasonable time to take what was a pretty bad situation and turn it around..

Go Big Orange... Vol4Life

I've backed CDD all the way and will continue to do so.

That said....we REALLY need to beat the gators next September. No "close-but-no-cigar" or "good showing, but-". Any variety of a win will do...but it HAS to happen.

Dooley is doing it right on the way he recruits and the type players he brings in. He will make us proud.

I am totally in!

Let the hater's hate. Those calling for Dooley's head would be unhappy if he won a national championship next year...they would criticize him for not winning TWO national championships.

At first i was dissapointed in the Dooley hire, I thought it was beyond ridiculous to hire a new HC in a week but as a VFL UT fan going by what i can see and read for myself in the media.(with no insider information) Ive liked him since day 1. You can tell he's doing the right things and that his results will come in time. He at least deserves a fair shot at seeing if what he's been building will work. I like his principles and i can definitely get behind the foundation and fundementals he's establishing for our program. It feels like vols football not "USC southeast" and that means alot to me as a Vol fan, i can put my heart into it win or lose(for now) because i believe in it and i believe we'll win in the long run and definitely win big this season. GO VOLS!!!

Unlike some people in very high places, I'm proud to be a Vol all the time.
