Well, the ride was fun. I hope Pearl has invested wisely because he will now be an untouchable. What a waste of coaching talent. It is not just Pearl's current errors that make this firing needed, but the history that follows Pearl. He did a really great job of being an ambassador for UT basketball but in the end the team he let down with his actions, let him down and us fans down. One can only hope that Pearl's ability to make Tennessee a household name in men's basketball will put us in the market of being a favorable vacancy to the large pool of quality coaches.

Now lets hope Hamilton can pull another pearl from the sea and then the athletic department can sever the ties with him as well.

GO VOLS!

Thanks for this. An issue that doesn't get talked about nearly enough is the fact that this isn't Pearl's first run-in with the NCAA over improper contact with the recruits. He committed a nearly identical violation as the one he committed at UW-M, and the NCAA is fed up at this point, as they should be.

Unfortunately, with the sanctions and the shaky situation with our AD, who would leave a decent job to come to an uncertain Tennessee program?
Insanely good facilities won't take you very far. Not to mention Tennessee as a state is a black hole for basketball talent.
We're looking at 10 years at least of black curtains and students swiping IDs to get into games...

6 years ago the basketball team had to share Stokely with Volleyball and the Track team for practices. Thanks to Bruce and top 5 attendances in the country for men's basketball games they have a great practice facility. Regardless of how hard NCAA hits us, we are better off today than we were after Buzz ball.

When I left they started distributing tickets, like football.
Basketball before Bruce you just walked up, swiped the I'd and could sit wherever you found a seat in the student section.

"Tigers never lose their stripes" - geez, kinda makes me want to gag. This is all sad. Don't understand people who want to pile on with this kind of kick 'em when they're down, condescending crap.

My post was pretty positive all things considered. Lets not forget that the integrity of Pearl was in question when he was hired. His past was brought up as a point of concern when the University gave him his second chance. Stories were done describing how Pearl had made the best of his opportunity at UT prior to the allegations that have come to light. There is no piling on. Pearls charisma and coaching endeared him to myself and the UT faithful. But in the end this Tiger didn't lose his stripes, he merely camouflaged them with winning basketball, a sweet smile and a flair like non we've seen. I enjoyed the ride as much as any Vol fan, but in the end 6 years of riding high has now slapped us in the face with the presence of uncertainty.

Uh, when did you leave.

I've been at the University for 8 years, (2003-2011, ugrad, now Ph.D.) and never, in that time span, have they given out tickets for basketball games.
