I didn't get to see the game, but nervously sat thru gametracker @ work:
  • 10 hits today, first time we have outhit the opponent in a game so far in '07
  • 2 hits each for Shawn Griffin and Jeff Lockwood
  • Lockwood delivered a HUGE 2 out 2 RBI single to tie the game in the 4th. Kudos to Griffin and Jarred Frazier for starting a 2 out rally preceeding Lock's hit
  • Craig Cobb complete game - 2 ER, 6K, and (most impressively) putting a damper on BCC's chances in the ninth...first 2 reach on singles, then a 3-6-2 DP and a K end it.
  • Some Cobb #'s: lowered his '07 ERA to 4.56... his 9th career complete game...in 23.2 innings, Cobby has 18K and only 1 walk - outstanding!
  • Yan Gomes started again @ catcher and JP Arencibia again at 1B...could this be permanent? Vols are 2-0 with this change...Shawn Griffin had his first start in the field today (LF) after starting the first 6 as the DH...
  • We had 10 runners LOB today - I know our offense will heat up sooner or later...with the ten hits today, the team batting average climbed to .228....
  • 1 error (Cody Brown) led to 1 unearned run...
Tomorrow's game is a real test against Blackwell - who is from Etowah and pitched at Cleveland State last year. Let's go get 'em Vols, and get back even on the year.

It IS interesting. I don't remember us struggling out of the gate quite like this since I've been following UT baseball. However, it is encouraging that we are finding some ways to win despite not having things going great guns at the plate. I firmly believe that this club will hit, and if they can start to come around offensively coupled with Julio's return, it could be dynamite come April and May.

I hope you are right. I am starting to worry a bit.

How can you stand watching baseball progress on gametracker? It tests my patience with basketball.
