Tickets are getting ridiculous

Lmao that’s funny, maybe while we’re at it the housing around Knoxville will drop back in half too.

Since you’re comparing it to housing, a good example is what landlords did to their renters for the 1982 World’s Fair. The long term tenants were kicked out while the apartment owners expected to get rich with overnight rentals. Before the fair opened cheap prefab motels were trucked in and slapped up at every interstate exit for miles around Knoxville and got the bulk of rental income. Then rentals sat empty for years afterwards.

Guys like Gus Manning built the brand over decades. It’s being dismantled for a short term cash grab. I’m afraid that butts in seats go the way of NASCAR events before much longer.

Possibly for CFB (still HIGHLY likely), but definitely not for CBB.

For years now, I found the best seat was my couch. Food and beer just a few feet away and replays on demand while watching with my best friend. It never gets old brother.
Yep. You can buy a great HD big screen and a nice surround sound system for what you're paying for tickets AND have a well stocked bar with no waiting. I made the move away from the Terrace during the Dooley years and haven't looked back.

It's not the same. Better in some ways maybe, but I wouldn't trade being there in '22 against Bama vs. your big screen and well stocked bar.

I have resigned to the idea that I have been priced out.
Yep! I am DONE with going in person to all athletic events at UT! TV is better anyway. Not contributing to the ridiculous coaches and players salaries! Not to mention knees in my back and being cramed into a seat that was made for a five year old.

All those things you just mentioned are my reasons.

I love the gameday environment, but the costs have gotten out of hand and ain't going back in the box. I've been fortunate to get a lot of my tickets in recent years through a relative, but I'm not sure how long he will keep his season tickets.

I try to go to one game a season - football and basketball. Ticket prices are priced way out of average fan zone. I am going to Atlanta to watch the Vols as - I have never been to Mercedes Benz, get to see them play Syracuse, weather not a factor, and lowest price ticket compared to a home game ticket at present. Live less than an hour from Bridgestone so bite the bullet on ticket to get a Section 300 seat and do not have to stay over night so that is the trade off for me. Like has been stated previously I can stay home and watch these games due to how ticket prices have gone up over the past few years. (the damn fees)

I am a season ticket holder, I have two upper deck seats that are very affordable, but not great seats. I have 2 lower level that are great, but I pay a lot of money for them. I made the decision this year that the upcoming season will be my last as a season ticket holder, just too much at this point in my life with kids in college

I feel like a high percentage of season ticket holders who would be upset at the higher prices are upset partly because they could not get enough profit back from those tickets on resale. Which is really the point for the AD -- identify the amount people are paying for tickets from them directly plus the amount on resale markets like StubHub, then price the tickets to capture most of that total, as it represents what fans are willing to pay for tickets.

The UTAD used to threaten cancelling season ticket holders that were selling their tickets. Then they started getting a cut of the secondary market and did a 180. It’s all about the Benjamins.

The selling is going to happen one way or another. People get pissed at musicians who set high prices trying to discourage the secondary market as well. Not every good works like this, but in a lot of situations if there is no formal market for a good that is in demand, an informal market will appear, and anybody who wants that good will pay market price, regardless if who is selling.

I’m curious about the overlap between the fans that (a) always complain about the UTAD being “cheap” with regard to coaches’ salaries, facility upgrades, etc., and (b) those that always complain about ticket prices.

It seems similar to the overlap between fans that don’t donate to NIL, but complain that UT’s NIL collective can’t compete with other schools.
