I said before the season that thus team will go as far as Drew Steckenrider takes them.

He has let little failures destroy his entire game. He is striking out FAR too often and is doing so by either looking at 3rd strikes or by swinging at balks in dirt.

His approach and most of the team's approach at the plate was obscene tonight.

Pitching was similar. Often our guys pitch better down 2-0 or 3-0 in count than when up 0-2.

Walker in the 9th was the first batter who came up with a plan and confidence.

We let a scrub freshman who threw little more than straight balls best us!

This is the second time this year a frosh pitcher has looked all world against my Vols, the other being the kid from Rice. That kid seems like the real deal, at least so far, based on what he's done since.

In terms of your thoughts on pitching...I don't know baseball as well as you or many others here...but...our guys seem to have a really hard time with 2 outs and being ahead in the count, 0-2, 1-2, etc.. Maybe one of the stat guys can tell us how many times we give up runs when we're just tring to get the last out, or the last strike even.

I've been perplexed by a couple of moves. The guy they keep putting in for Luther and sometimes Morgan, hasn't gotten one hit...Walker was the starting catcher, then it's Bennett, will they split time? Is it who has the hot bat?

Base running and pitching is what this staff is about, right? Pressure ball?

Seems like we are weak mentally, maybe emotionally as a team, and maybe it's having an effect on Steck...Fritts too...which brings me to a lack of quality of depth. Who is going to push the starters right now. Morgan's first error today...seemed to be lack of intensity, more than a bad throw, for instance.

Not sure what to think at this point. Based on your other posts, I get that you're upset about our performance. I'm hopeing a lil tough love is around the bend.

It's gonna take a while. I didn't observe a whole lot of talent -- we typically play good defense --but

Just me - but I think they are too passive at the plate. I prefer a more agressive approach. You see something you like in or near the zone and you swing.

I haven't seen the number 1 pitcher but number 2 starter last week was a slinger. I can tell you our pitching is not up to SEC calibre. Don't know anything about the freshmen recruited last year but we need immediate help on the mound.

We seem to have an overabundance of little guys. Is it just me - very small players for the most part.

Base running was awful the game I was at. Lack of focus or something - poor base coaching as well.

I haven't even checked - who did we lose to yesterday?

That was definitely a disappointing loss to TT....Never thought that we would lose to them, but the pitcher was throwing well and we had no desire to hit the baseball. Just like already said we have to be more aggressive at the dish, I'd almost like to tell them like I use to tell my little league teams, I don't care if you strike out but it better not be standing there looking at strike 3. I know CDS will get it turned around its just gonna take some time and everyone not jumping on him for the team losing some games. GBO

This not on CDS at all. There is simply no upper class talent to work with. Period. Next point. Zero SEC level pitchers. No clutch hitter you can count on. I really like Maddox and Allen. There are two to build on. Need two great recruiting years. Need pitching badly. Third and first base for us this year are horrific. Bennett not what I thought he would be coming out of H.S. Below avg. hitter so far, and far below average defensive catcher. I was hoping for more this year, but ......it ain't happening.
