Thoughts the morning after heartbreak

It is damned if you do damned if you don’t in that scenario. I think you are right he didn’t want to ice his kicker and inadvertently did.
At least give the kicker credit for coming back & making the kick in overtime from the same spot. Yeah, it hurts to miss the game winning kick but all kickers miss kicks. Had he made the first kick there would be nothing but praise for the whole team. What we did prove was that we can beat any team. Yes, we still have to get it done. Slowly but surely our roster is getting better players to match up with those teams full of 5/4 star laden players. Gotta have the talent to match up.

Agree with this and OP's views. Most of the PI calls were due to the fact that GA's receivers were torching our DB's and they were desperately trying to stop them. A couple of the PI calls were just dumb things by the DB, note the push in the back of a GA receiver when the ball was overthrown. And yes the PI call was cheap but there was no reason for our DB to do that.

Disappointing but not a disaster. Get Gibson and McCoy back and that should upgrade the DB's. A lot of positives from this game and a lot of negatives. Good news is most of the negatives are fixable.

I see Bama as a loss and changing my other potential loss from UF to OK. M. St and Arky will also be tough. 10-2 if D improves to 8-4 if issues remain.
On GA last drive i regulation play QB threw the ball out of bounds not one of our players were with in 10 yards of the ball and flag for PI was thrown giving them first down instead of fourth and 10 (or long)

So after a few hours of sleep I think I'm ready to talk about it, I'm very proud of the guys they played extremely hard but I'm really disappointed in Heupel, he made some really bad coaching decisions which has kind of become the normal... here's my thoughts not that they mean much but we really needed this game...we are a good football team but the rest of our schedule is tough, Bama, Florida, Miss state on the road, OU, Ark at home.... I believe we end the year 8-4....9-3 at best...had we beat UGA like we should have we would've had a shot at another playoff run, just my thoughts... I'm disappointed but also proud of how our program has totally changed under heup just wish he'd stop coaching scared in crucial moments of the game🍊🍊🍊
I’m not proud of anything. I’m ashamed that our coach shat his pants out of cowardice last night. He’s good, not great, and we will never win anything of consequence with him. That was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt last night.

Any close loss can be blamed on one bad play call, bad kick, bad block, bad pass, bad penalty, etc..

The separation between victory and defeat was literally one play out of several that if any of them went our way, we win. We didn’t.

Until Heupel can construct a team without a glaring weakness, we will be in many 50/50 ball games.

We played to conservative after the fumble. Run it up the gut when we shoulda went for the kill shot. I still support our coach but he’s gonna be up at night for a while over yesterday !
That’s the one series I didn’t quite get. I get taking points there, but I would’ve liked to have seen us take a shot on 1st or 2nd down.

Despite all of the defensive issues, we had them beat and let them off the hook. Imagine how different we would view the 22 Bama game if our kicker had missed and we lose in OT like we did UGA. If he makes that kick yesterday, the knee-jerk crowd would be top of the world and wanting to hand out lifetime contracts.

My biggest issue is how we handled the series after the strip sack. We should have taken an immediate shot downfield like the ole ball coach used to do after a sudden change.
No, I'd still be concerned with the defense.

These 8-4 or 9-3 comments are blowing my mind. If we get healthy, we are winning out.
Agreed. If that game yesterday is played 10 times you all win 5-6 of them. We aren’t better than yall this year. Bobo being our OC again is going to give me (more) grey hairs.

*I’ve only ever posted a few times and last time was several years ago. I’m not a troll, we love Knoxville and if Jig n Reel would let me sleep there I’d likely move in, lol.

Had they been aggressive and turned it over you’d be in here bitching that CJH should have played for the FG

Neither Gibs nor JM are coming back. Hood can lock his side of the field down. It's the other island that needs to be addressed.

I mean it took everything UGA had to barely beat us. And not to mention all the starters that were down on defense. Looking at our schedule, it is not out of the realm of possibility that we win out. No team we play from here on out has the defense to really stop us.

Haha, thanks for the kind words. I no longer live in Knoxville, but it will always be home.

Agree on last post. I blame the incompetence of our school from 2008 on that put Heupel in a tough rebuild. Our rivals have had their best runs in history while we struggled to beat Vandy and make bowl games for over 15 years.
Florida has done nothing in a long time. It has been Alabama and Georgia

as good as Joey looks, he’s not 2022 Hendon Hooker. He hasn’t had two years in the system and the coaches aren’t going to want to put everything on him yet. So I can understand the conservative playcalling at the end.

We are a very, very, very good team. We are just a few issues away from being a championship team, the most important of which is getting a few key players healthy.

Thoughts the morning after: Should of tried to go for the kill shot on first down after the strip sack, then go conservative if that didn't work..
Thought # 2 Redman can't cover good receivers one on one and will be picked on all year.
Thought # 3 Missing a big body in the middle of the dline.. I felt like they should blitzed up the middle and got Stockton moving, he doesn't throw it all that well on the run..
Thought # 4 Heupel inadvertantly iced his own kicker.
Thougth # 5 Tennessee will have to outscore good teams on the road, they're not going to hold teams down this year.
Thought # 6 That might have been their best shot for a while at ending that streak.
Thought # 7 Goergia isn't that good and probably doesn't make it to Atlanta this year. Their offense is pedestrian and Tennessee made them look good.
Thought # 8 I'm not a big fan of Tim Bank's in game adjustments. The motion from UGA confused Tennessee all day, also couldn't get lined up half the time. I get the crowd noise deal but it continued the whole game..
Thuoght # 9 I'm old and just don't get bent out of shape over Tennessee losing these type of games anymore. BVS i guess, but i cope with it a lot better now. Probably the beer and i don't have too many F's left to give.
