Thoughts on the idea of contraction in the NBA

I'm not a big NBA fan, but I think it's probably a good thing. Memphis, New Orleans, Charlotte, and Oklahoma City could all go.

wouldn't expect the Wolves to go with Glen Taylor as the owner and 13th best market in the league.

Market size is not as important as profit margin. Toronto & Memphis are toast.

Toronto is a non-competitive franchise in a city that really doesn't give a damn about basketball.

My guess is that Memphis, Sacramento and Toronto would be the first on the chopping block. New Orleans and Charlotte could also get the axe.

The Association is going to have to resort to this because they can't afford these salaries.

Still, this is all on the owners fault. Mediocre to useless players getting paid far in excess of what they're worth has been going on forever. The NBA has an unusual abundance of franchises that simply cannot negotiate contracts successfully, and its these bottom-feeding franchises that are not only bad for the NBA, but also the primary reasons that a handful of franchises are the only ones that matter.

Dont you dare take my Rays JT.
While the MLB faces some real long-term growth issues, mainly because nobody under the age of 25 gives two craps about baseball, they do succeed where the NBA fails in operating on a profitable model.

The MLB could be comprised of 8 teams and nobody would know the difference.

Honestly makes me sad, i mean im only 5 years older than the demographic you just gave but what is it? Short attention span or baseball was always boring and we just have more options now?

Untrue.

It was an exaggeration, but regardless, the MLB has some serious issues with viewership. One of the best pitching matchups of the whole season, featuring the Yankees in a pivotal playoff game was utterly destroyed in the Nielsens by the freaking Titans and Jags in a lopsided game.

Why cut the 5th biggest media market in North America?

Does anyone really care about Toronto outside of Toronto? what FA's really want to go play in Canada?

The NBA could easily get rid of the Clippers, Grizz, Hawks and Bobcats.

It's pretty close to true. Regular season football games get better ratings than the ALCS or NLCS.

I care about baseball a lot, until September. Once football season begins, I could give 2 craps about it. Guess it doesn't help that I'm a Padres fan
