How do you think this plays out? What's Tennessee's best case scenario? What's likely?

Last I saw Tennessee was projected as a No. 3 seed in Coastal Carolina or FSU's regional.

Remaining schedule :

West Georgia
at Kentucky
Presbyterian
Texas
Belmont
at Oklahoma
SEC Tournament

Vols started SEC play at 4-8 because they gave away about 4 games. They are 6-3 in their last 3 series against other teams in the middle of the pack (MSU, Miss, Bama). Texas will be tough, but it is at home. I think they win at least 4 more and secure a spot in playoffs. Best case scenario is squeak out 3 series wins to improve to 16-14 in SEC. Would that be enough to host in first round? Hopefully Brown finishes the year on his hot streak and the offense continues to click.

Getting to 13 wins is going to be very difficult. We really need to take three from Kentucky. I know that’s asking a lot in Lexington, but we’ve played better on the road. If we can sweep in Lexington, we’re in position to win 13 simply by avoiding sweeps in the final 2 series.

BUT the bats (and team) are coming alive at the right time. Brown is finally the hitter he was supposed to be. Clark has hit better. Inserting Grindlinger has made a huge difference. Grimmer has been a surprise at 2B, which has allowed the lineup flexibility to start our best hitters. And the defense has been phenomenal.

Tegan has stepped it up and become an elite starter. Blanco is solid on Sundays. But we need Mack to step up and App to get back to old form before his struggles the last two weekends. And we still need another couple of bullpen arms to step up…one should be Krenzel. I’d like to see Day and Baiotto be the other two…those guys look talented.

After the 2 wins against Bama yesterday, Vols are 10-11 in SEC play. The standings hadn’t been updated yet.

Good catch. I didn't even notice that. It's weird to me that the SEC doesn't update those standings in real time on their website.

Here are the D1 Standings, which appear to be up to date.

I thought I heard them say last nite, we were the last team in? We’ve got to bump up that win column. There will be some unexpected losses/wins for everyone else, especially in the SEC. We’re certainly trending in the right direction.

Thank you. I kept thinking that didn’t jive with the record showing on the TV graphic last night. But leave it to the SEC to be so technologically behind.

Looks like we only need 3 wins to get to 13. That should be very doable. Win 2 in Lexington and avoid consecutive sweeps to OU and tu. I’m guessing we get 4 and finish 14-16 in SEC play.

Going 3-6 down the stretch shouldn’t be too much to ask. I think hosting a regional is on life support, but we shouldn’t have too much trouble making the field.

Also, I love seeing Vandy and LSU down in those standings!

Yeah, I was going by the standings that Freak posted that weren’t updated (showing we only have 8 wins, rather than 10). Yes, we should get 3 more wins.

I’m not holding out any hope for hosting, but we could get a 2 seed. Good news is, this team seems to play better in the road anyway. If we have to go to Tallahassee or Conway, I could see Tennessee doing just fine, assuming we keep playing well.

I thought the same thing, that it was odd that I had to leave the official SEC website to go to an unaffiliated third party website to get accurate information about the SEC. Perhaps the SEC doesn’t have enough revenue to support the massive expense of updating standings 🙄

In with 3 or 4 more, host if win these last 3 series, especially if a sweep of either Texas or Ok.

these SEC records/standings are outdated. UT and Bama are now both 10-11. UT should end up 14-16 which will be a lock for postseason. If they should finish at 16-14, they will likely host a Regional with their RPI and SOS improving vastly with the strong finish.

I’ve never understood how they rank baseball teams. TN and AL have almost identical records with Tn having one more SEC loss but AL ranked 13th and TN unranked.
I was thinking that during the game last night. I guess Alabama‘s strength the schedule is much higher.

RPI and SOS come into play. Even after the series, Alabama is #6 in RPI and #1 in SOS. TN is #30 in RPI and #17 in SOS.

Simply, even though the records are nearly the same, Alabama has played better competition. At least according to the metrics. Seeing both teams on the field, we look better and would have swept if we hadn’t gift-wrapped game one in a never before seen flurry of walks and hit batters….

I still think we can get to 15 wins.... Oklahoma is very, very average (7-9 against SEC teams not named Missouri) and Kentucky is a good matchup for us. Just got to avoid getting swept by Texas

We should be able to get 1 at home vs TX. Also think we match up well against KY and OK. So get 4 more wins between those two series and the 1 against TX for a total of 5 more that’s a pretty strong finish to how the season started. I was hiking real close to cliff ledges earlier this season.

Our record shows that are roughly a .500 baseball team this year.

Bipolar group...therefore,

I say we win 3 at Kentucky
Lose 3 at home aginst Horns
Win 2-3 at boomer sooner.

15-15 for the season.

Lose the first one in Hoover at 9:30 in the morning

After a disappointing start to SEC play, we're watching a young talented team mature. With every week of experience, against the best teams in college baseball, they get better in every aspect of the game.

We are only 3 wins out of first place in the SEC. This team could easily go 6-3 to finish out league play. Hosting is a long shot but not off the table if we can avoid disasters like Thursday night.

I'd settle for 14 wins. 16 seems like a tall order given the schedule. Nice to dream tho.

If we could play fundamental defense, we would be in the top third of SEC. Our bullpen is a little short, be we have a couple of the best in the League. We need to have better defense play from our catchers, but our pitches are not very good at holding runner at first base. The bats seem to be coming around and hopefully score enough runs to advance to the Regionals.
