I posted these thoughts throughout the weekend on Volquest
Very nice sweep over an NCAA tourney team from last year....pitching did really well today....only allowed 4 hits and 1 run....best players from the series were Polk (9-12), Liles (1 HR, 6 RBI), Norfork, and Forsythe....pitching wise McCray pitched the best along with Morgado and a few others...defense was great throughout weekend especially Osborne at SS....nice start to the year...hopefully Hawn will be back against top 15 Oregon State"
Morgado did great the first 4 innings and got pretty unlucky in the 5th with a few infield hits and botched plays...McCray pitched very well today giving up only 3 hits in 5.1 innings...the bullpen was great in the series, especially Blount, Catapano, Clifft, Locante, and Ramsey"
The hitting was very good in the series...Polk and Norfork at the top of the lineup are very fast and put the ball in play a lot...the middle of the lineup is in great shape if Hawn recovers well from his injury...3/4/5 should be Liles, Hawn, Forsythe although Norfork may hit in the 9 spot some pushing Liles, Hawn, and Forsythe up to 2/3/4
This upcoming series against Oregon State will tell us a lot about our pitching...hopefully Hawn can at least DH
One more thing I will add...our fielding was great this weekend...I think Raleigh may DH Hawn because of his injury along with how well Stubbs played at first base...Osborne has to be one of the best fielders in the nation...saved at least 3 hits up the middle today with his range
