as i have had yet another business trip to good old memphis this week, it still never ceases to amaze me how this place changes so much yet stays the same.
a few thoughts on my short trip in this week.....
the sports bar radio show is not good. i listened today as the hosts debated whether or not the "u of m" as in Memphis, not michigan, would win more than 6 games and then debate on who and why someone would vote for Memphis in the pre season poll. surely there are other things worth talking about?
the discussion then went on to disect the reasons why Brent Shaffer would not be starting for Ole Miss. to which one of the pundits opined that it was all his coaches' fault. from UT to the JC to Ole Miss. the coaches have apparently completely missed the boat on this kid. 2 different coaching staffs in the SEC were just wrong. apparently the thought that BS may just not be all he was hyped to be doesn't enter in to the picture........that discussion was priceless.
Desoto County has changed a lot, most of which for the good. i got to eat at Mesquite Chop House tonight, and it was much better than i expected, both in the food and service.........i mean how good can a steak joint in Southaven really be? pretty darn good imo.
the traffic here hasn't changed a bit, however, the interchange from 40 to 240 is worlds better than it was 10 years ago......kudos to them for getting that disaster remedied.
also making headlines: bouncer at local Bealle Street pub slams patron in to sidewalk headirst, causing skull fracture and bleeding in the brain. for doing what you ask? attempting to cross a baricade to get to his hotel while having an open container.........of ice tea. look i know you are not allowed to bring an open container in to the bar......but to just get to the hotel? they guy and his wife were on vaction to celebrate their 25th anniversary. congrats, i hear the hospitals in Memphis are wonderful this time of year.
so as i prepare to get on a plane tomorrow to head back to Charlotte, i find the bluff city much as i left it....though a little more sprawl, and a few more streets and highways have been added.....
can't wait for the next trip back........:salute:
