Thoughts about the potential of this RB class?

Jamal Lewis was the only UT running back to ever resemble Herschel Walker (who most consider the SEC's greatest running back).

Jamal's freshman year was incredible - his best and he slid from there.

If Hurd has a Jamal-freshman like year, we'll all be giddy come game day.

Is really a matter of how Herd and Paulk recover from their injuries. Shoulder injuries, especially severe ones can be tricky. I hear his recovery is going well, but it would not surprise me if he was held out of any contact or scrimmage this spring. Knee injury recovery can be as short as less than a year to 2 years before back to normal. Hoping for the best

I hope I am wrong. He wasn't heavily recruited and now is coming off a torn ACL. A torn ACL in high school typically doesn't equate to good long term health.

I tore my ACL in 8th grade, and was dunking by the time I was a 6'1" high school sophomore. My ACL reconstruction surgery was in 1999 (by the same orthopedic surgeon who operated on Jamal Lewis' ACL in 1998), and I assume the technique has improved tremendously over the last 15 years. Thomas Davis of the Carolina Panthers has had 3 ACL surgeries in the same knee, and he just wrapped up a Pro Bowl caliber season with plays like this:

Thomas Davis Interception

My point is that ACL surgeries aren't the death knell to an athlete's career like they once were 30 or 40 years ago. Paulk should be fine as long as he rehabs correctly and doesn't rush his recovery.

I hope Hurd is as good as everyone believes he will be. He has lost weight since the injury. Being an EE will help him tremendously but having a Jamal like impact is asking a ton especially with a brand new line. But in butch I trust so who knows what can happen:rock:

Any weight loss is likely upper body after shoulder surgery...will rebound quickly once cleared for all upper workouts. Jmo, much different than Alden Hills wt loss wit mononucleosis...had to overcome significant loss of conditioning that Hurd will not.
