Everyone thought Oklahoma would throw for a 1,000 yards against us. Everyone thought they would score 40+ points.

Gameday arrived and they had 3 points thru 3 quarters and Mayfield couldn't get a completion longer than 5 yards.

I said all this to say week 1s can fool us into thinking something is a bigger problem than it really is.

The offense sucked last night. But we didn't suddenly go from the #2 scoring offense in the SEC last year to a team that can't move the ball.

Expect the offense to look much better next week.

Very good point D4H. I would be way more concerned if this happened with a bunch of new starters. We played like crap last night but we have seen this same set of kids play top level lights out football. We know that they are very capable and I personally think that last night was just a perfect storm of s**t. The fact we found a way to win gives me renewed hope for the season

Oklahoma was not week One.

He's saying people were over reacting to the bowling green game. Let's not forget their stud QB and Deiter (who we'll playing bama this year) threw the ball all over us last year week 1.

He's not wrong. People need to back off the ledge a bit. We showed absolutely nothing about our offense and defense last night, it was so conservative. Time will tell. 1-0

Hence him referencing our week 1 game in which we got burned deep over and over again only to improve in week 2 to shut down Oklahoma....Granted the wording isn't the greatest.

I know what he was saying, I was being sarcastic

Well...maybe not 1,000 yards but enough when it counted to win the game. I'm not sure Oklahoma was the best performance for our pass defense last year.

With us leading 17-3 at the end of the 3rd quarter, OU scored 2 TDs passing to tie the game. They scored another TD passing in the 2nd OT for what would be the game winning score.

Florida converted 5 for 5 4th downs against us - all with passes.

I hope like hell your example doesn't hold up this year because in previous years once our vulnerabilities have been exposed they have NOT been corrected and are often the go-to option for our opponents when the game is on the line. jmo.

I'm talking about Bowling Green lighting us up week 1 last year to the tune of 400+ yards passing and everyone thought Oklahoma would throw it all over the yard on us week 2.

Oklahoma arrived and they barely did anything thru the air till the 4th quarter when we collapsed.

Now everyone thinks the offense sucks because we only scores 1 TD in regulation against App State.

I'm saying don't fall for week 1 mirages. Our offense will be fine moving forward.

I don't disagree with your premise regarding our offense this year but I think our pass defense was consistently sub par last year. I think it's likely that good coaches strategically manage a game. That might include not attacking our vulnerabilities too early in the game. Sort of playing possum a bit until it's time to take over the game. Again it's just my opinion but whether it was the guys on the field or Jancek's play calling, I think last year our pass defense repeatedly failed in some of our big games when the game was on the line.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that Dobbs has not improved one iota over last year in the passing game. Thought he was tutored and went to special camps this year. Confused.
