Its the 2nd longest continuous CFB rivalry played at the FBS level at 115-straight meetings (and 118 overall)...and boy are do these teams surprisingly get under each other's skin.

It’s a rivalry series that started in a 4-4 tie game, and once saw a game end in a full, five-minute long brawl with players brandishing nose guards, head gear, fists, and any sort of weapon found at hand…followed by the ENTIRE CROWD DESCENDING ONTO THE FIELD TO JOIN IN (and amidst all the madness, someone stole a pistol from a Wake Forest (the city, not the school) Police Officer!)

Wake Forest won last year's meeting, having also won 5 out of the last 8 matchups.

After it became 14 all following the NC State's return of a pick 6, Wake Forest scored yet another TD run to make it 21-14 early in the 2nd quarter.

21 yard FG is good, making it 24-17 Wake Forest with a minute left until halftime.

And after Wake Forest has a 3 and out at their own 30, NC State calls a timeout with 26 seconds left to try to get in one more score.

TD NC State on their second drive of the second half. After going down the field 70 yards, State connects on a 4-yard TD pass to make it 24 all with 6:22 left in the game.

After all the offense / defensive struggling, NC State’s defense has held Wake Forest without a first down for an over an hour real time (since the brisket food truck in the stadium caught on fire).

NC State commits an offensive hold to start the 4th quarter?

Wake Forest follows it up with a defensive pass interference.

And State follows it up with a 42 yard run.

FG is good to make it 34-24 State with 6:19 left in the game.

One more stop and State can put this one away (and odds of that are pretty good: Wake only has 12 plays across the entire second half).

What a flip by NC State’s defense.

First half:
Wake Forest scores 24 points
Has 272 total yards of offense
Gets 11 first downs
Is 6/6 on 3rd downs
Only punts 1 time.

2nd half:
Wake Forest scores 0 points
Has 70 total yards of offense (38 total before the last 5 minutes of the game)
Gets 2 first downs (0 before the last 5 minutes of the game)
Goes 0/9 on 3rd downs
Punts 4 times plus a turnover on downs.

If anything summarizes what was just on the field, it might be the Wake Forest QB escaping pressure on the game’s final 4th and long to throw an unimpeded pass straight into the balls of the referee standing downfield from him.
