This is Why Fulmer's Not Going Anywhere

Looks like they only talked to junk yard folk, a taxidermist, and a gun dealer. That is about what I would expect from them.

This is the last line in the article, a quote from the employee at Frontier Firearms: "We just have to beat Vanderbilt and Spurrier, then it's OK. It's a good season."

Basically these rednecks are saying as long as we don't lose every game, we should hang on to Phil.

You reached way into that didn't you?

I said it was what I would expect from them, and it is.

Let's not overlook the real facts in the situation. Until CPF is competitive against the big dogs each week will be a media exercise in: "Will he stay or will he go". It has been my experience that when that begins to happen to any major program, the leader of said program is on the way out the door.

In order to keep such a story going you must have atagonists or apologists on both sides of the issue. Otherwise the reading public would simply get bored. Every columnist/publication wants to capture the interest and imagination of the public. So my message is this. Pay less attention to the details and more attention to the constant drumbeat questioning the change. Up until this season it has never been that consistent.

This board's 24-hour-a-day, people-who-have-no-lives members will villify everyone who doesn't toe the antti-Fulmer line. Fulmer's problem is that he spoiled these little jerks.

So you like that the Tennessean interviewed people from the Hillbilly Auto Salvage, the gun shop, and the you snuff 'em we stuff 'em emporium?

That makes all of us in this great state look wonderful.

I have feeling these guys supporting Fulmer are the exception that prove the rule.

I've never been a Fulmer-basher, not by any stretch of the imagination, but the stats cannot be ignored (and we all know the stats...).

Our rivals (Alabama and Florida) were both in this situation not too long ago: An amazingly-talented team with an average coach, and the fear of fading into "bolivian" (a la Mike Tyson).

Both made whole-sale changes. The Gators are national and SEC champions. In due time, the Tide will be competitive on a national scale.

We must follow suit.

Im with Jake, feel free to log off and go on with your wonderful life in the Natural State. By the way, people from Arkansas should get on their knees every night and thank God for Mississippi.

Jake, when I read that article my wife was throwing up in the bathroom from morning sickness, but in my mind it was from the article. It's just hard for me to believe that people are out there with that mindset. What really frightens me is that I suspect there are far more "fans" out there that feel the same way......far more than we know.

generally speaking when people are content wit the way things are, they are less likely to have a need to voice their opinions, until asked or challenged with a different way of thinking. Call them the silent majority.

the pissed off segment of that same population that is angry is much more motivated to voice their opinion, because of the disagreement with the status quo.

it's been that way thru out history, and is today, why when listening to call in shows or reading on a message board, most opinions shared are shared by the ones motivated enough to say it.

It's not just junk-dealers, gun shop owners, and taxidermists...

Yesterday I was on the phone with my friend "Dave ___" in Knoxville, working on plans for meeting up prior to the game. I have the tickets, he has the tailgate plan.

Anyhow, I have known Dave since middle school. He was voted most likely to succeed, and is now a practicing attorney. I mentioned my unhappiness with CPF and he laughed incredulously. "The man took us to a national championship, and has a 750 winning percentage, are there any other coaches out there with that kind of body of work?"

He continued, "Do we just want to throw him to the wolves just for change's sake?" Think of all the CPF has done for this university"

I calmly and rationally described the numbers that seem to tell me (at least) that the program is in decline and that, while CPF has certainly done a great job in the past, he is not doing so in recent years. Dave conceded a few points but was not totally convinced.

So, it's not just guys from HIllbilly Junk Yard that remain enamored of Phil.

He knows the law, but he obviously doesn't know football.

If we were in a court of law, i could make a much better case AGAINST Fulmer than he could FOR him...

there are so many fans out there, you know the ones, they go to the games to tailgate or to fellowship, the team's performance is really secondary to the "event". I also suspect that they are countless ut fans that will buy into the whole winning % garbage that's always touted by Phil's supporters.

ditto on the Feel free to log off. I was a Tennessee Fan long before Fulmer was in HS. I have been spoiled by Tradition not by a coach.
