I was listening to the sports animal and they just said Fulmer wanted Chad Morris, but he chose Arkansas over us. That is where we are... No-name coaches with mediocre resumes from no-name schools are choosing effing Arkansas over us. We might as well close down the football program. Forget hiring a quality power 5 coach, we cant even outbid Arkansas to get Chad effin Morris.

A big part of why a reputable established coach doesn't want the job has to do with the dysfunction in our athletic department. Hopefully Fulmer can help with that. If so, the next time we are looking for a coach (3-5 years), maybe we can finally land the big fish.

I suspect is is more that we were taking to long to make an offer and Arkansas made one and Morris took it.

Folks are not going to wait for Tennessee to twiddle their thumbs especially when they definitely backed out of one offer and may have backed out of 2 others.

The UTAD has absolutely no credibility right now. NONE.

If you believe this stuff, that's just you looking for something to be negative about. People around here get so melodramatic about stuff like this. Even if it was true, who cares? I'm not going to blame anyone for turning this job down right now because from the outside looking in it's not good. The talk about Morris was never all that hot to begin with so I very much doubt there was a lot of mutual interest.

Your user name suits you well.

Shut up. Watching this train wreck is sickening. Now we have another 3 to 5 years of suckitude to look forward to. We arent going to get a homerun hire... That ship has long since sailed. Without a homerun hire, we are playing for 3rd place at best in the East every year. We needed a huge hire to get back to relevance and the people in charge failed on an epic level. It burns my rear end that the clowns that killed our program will walk away rich with huge buyouts.

Every fan base in the SEC can legitimately say "We beat y'all the last time we played"

Sad situation we find ourselves in. But all it takes is the right staff/AD to turn it all around

Yep. Every single team in the East and West. We are pathetic.

One thing that's always mentioned as an issue here is the challenge in recruiting. Coach Phil didn't mind spending countless hours in the air traveling cross country to recruit but apparently the new age of coaches prefer to recruit nearby and Knoxville is supposedly in the middle of nowhere. So my question is why are all the top recruits willing to go to Bama in the middle of nowhere? It's because of Saban. He's a big name coach (with success). This is why our focus should have always been towards a big name coach. I think we had a chance of that until the Schiano backlash and I honestly believe a combination of Athletic Department problems and the fan influence through social media has pushed coaches away. So we don't have a choice but to choose another Butch Jones clone and hope it works out.

And Fulmer is taking way to long to make a decision IMO.

It hasn't even been a week yet... He basically had to start from scratch, so yeah it's going to take a little time. This next part is for everyone:

Fulmer is not a magician, he cannot erase a decade of incompetence in less than a week. Can you imagine the absolute disaster he walked into with this job? He's having to battle perception as he works through this coaching search. Every day there is a new editorial being published by some jerkoff taking the piss out of UT because it gets eyes on his employer's website(or his own as the case may be). I have confidence that Fulmer will get UT back to being one of the most well respected programs in the country but if you thought that was going to happen overnight you were sorely mistaken.

So just like Alabama had to settle down the list with Saban, we will have to settle for Pruitt. Got it.

That is BS. Even during the Dooley era, UT was in the 20s in terms of recruiting. Butch had several top 10 classes and even a top 5 class. UT is within several hours of several talent rich areas. Recruiting is not the issue.

Ding Ding Ding!

We were irrelevant. They we brought in the brink's truck and called the best coach possible and gave him the keys to the university.

You should have handed out a blank cheque right off the bat to best possible hire.

Jones was willing to travel and spend the time.

I doubt we will find another coach that is willing to put that time and energy into recruiting.

Some of these guys are top recruiters because they live in or near places where talent is in their backyard. At Tennessee they are going to have to travel to where the talent is.

The longer it takes the lower in the barrel he has to go. Some schools lost a coach 1 day and has a new one 1 to 2 days later.

It is what it is. Fulmer should have made the offer to Morris after the interview. Morris is much less of a gamble than Pruitt or Tucker. You snooze - You lose. Fulmer has never hired a HC before. Really what can you expect. Support whoever he hires.
