It's a big game and a game that could mean a lot, but this isn't a must win game. This is a tough out of conference game. If Tennessee loses, all their goals are in still in play. That's winning the SEC East and making a New Year's Six Bowl. Florida is a must win game IMO. Much bigger for the program and for the fans.

I feel like people are hyping this game too much. I want a very good showing and I want a win. But a lost is definitely not the end of the world. It's still way too early for must win games and a non conference game. Even if Tennessee loses 28-24 there is no reason to panic or get off the bandwagon.

I think Oklahoma wins. I think there is a little too much offensive talent right now for OU for Tennessee to handle. It wouldn't surprise me if Tennessee won however.

Three keys to the game:

1) Getting pressure on Mayfield.

2) Slowing down Joe Mixon and containing him.

3) Getting Joshua Dobbs in rhythm for the passing game.

it sets the tone for the rest of the season. plus it gets rid of any doubt we all have currently. this is a HUGE must win to get going through the SEC gauntlet.

This game has become a must win. With all the hype, media attention, and smack talk this week, it has morphed into a must win, pace setting game for the rest of the year.

An overrated idea. Ask Ohio State last year. It's about improving week to week, not about getting early wins for "momentum".

I agree, but at the same time, If we do win...It's a huge game for the program.

Sorry OP, but a loss here sends us back into Unrankedville where we've been for years now. It also stops the hype train dead in its tracks and shakes up an extremely confident UT team.

Granted we can still win the East with a loss here, but Booger McFarland said it best the other day. He said "Tennessee needs to win this game, they need to be back. If not now, then when?"

If this isn't a must-win, then it's as close to a must-win as you can possibly get.

I really hate scared fans. YOU CAN'T BE SCARED TO FAIL. These sort of threads show a lack of confidence. That sort of vibe can get to players. I hope you're not at Neyland. We need everyone to be 100% behind the team at all times. We don't need folks like you who are ready to quit on the game before its even played.

Just like playing Bama, we don't have the horses to compete with OU for 4 qrs. I expect us to be tied at half time then get tired and start slipping away. As long as we don't get blown out, I'm content. Y'all don't freak out.

41-30 OU

I don't know about "must win" but this is a very beatable opponent which happens to be ranked and has a strong national perception. Coach Jones and staff need to get this one.

We've recruited ALOT better than them the last 2 years. They went 8-5 last year. We went 7-6. They lost alot of guys to the draft. We lost no one of significance. You can make alot of excuses for why we should lose to oklahoma. Inexperience. Injuries. Moment too big. Lack of talent IS NOT ONE OF THEM. This team has loads of talent. Arguably top 10 type talent.

This is a stupid post.

I'm just a regular fan that loves my Vols who thinks OU is a little better. If players are getting vibes from a random fan on a message board, then we are ****ed anyways.

It would hurt their pride and demoralize them a bit. But if they let one loss complete derail their morale and aspirations for every other game, then thats just pathetic.

Yup. A good coaching staff and tough minded players can rally.

I agree.

My point was more that it nowhere demoralizes the season or the program's momentum.

I think fans are calling this a must win because they are confident they can win, much like Florida 2012. Nobody is going to be calling Alabama a must win this year even though winning that game would mean a lot more than beating Oklahoma. Nobody called Georgia or Missouru must wins from last year.

Travis Stevens says it's a must win that will set the tone for the season.

Eddie Vol Halen says it's a must win that will set the tone for the season.

It must be a must win game that will set the tone for the season.

I'm excited, and I think we really held back against BG to unleash Hell on the Sooners.

If we lose its not a season breaker but honestly...its freaking time to turn the corner . OU is pretty much dead even with us as a team, and we are at home. Butch has to show he can coach and win a big one
