The test for me in the coaching hire was, "Can they beat Alabama every other year?"

When Pruitt was chosen I felt like they had a shot. Only candidate I felt that way about.

After looking at the progress of this team, and thinking of the play vocabulary the scout team is learning, I think beating Alabama every other season is going to happen.

I think what the OP is suggesting is that once Pruitt gets up and going, he’ll beat Bama 50% of the time.

There’s no way to even make a guess at that with what we’ve seen.

At this point, my guess is that I don’t think Bama loses to Tennessee until Saban retires...which may be around the time Pruitt gets Tennessee up and going

I think you chose the incorrect test.

The test should be, "Will this coach get us back to competing for the East year in and year out?" No one else is coming close to beating Alabama 50% of the time until Saban retires.

Auburn and LSU (2 programs much better than us in the last decade) also play Alabama every year. They are 3-7 and 2-8, respectively, against Alabama in the last 10 years. Combined, that's 25%, and they probably feel pretty good to be there.

What are you suggesting we do on the 3rd Saturday?

First of all, losing to Bama is not a unique Tennessee thing these days. No one can beat them consistently. They are on another level. The good news is around the time Pruitt gets this program rebuilt, 3-4 years at best, Saban really should be close to retiring. I predict his leaving will lead to mediocrity by the Tide for at least a few years as historically that is what happens when a legendary coach leaves. That is when I see the rivalry flip.

Look at your words, man.

This current Tennessee team has almost no shot against Bama this year. And given what both teams appear to be returning next year, it seems pretty unlikely in 2019 as well. So, perhaps you're looking for a .500 average, which I certainly can rule out, as opposed to an argument that UT is going to win one of the next two games.

Auburn was the last team to beat Alabama. Strout runs the scout team. The scout team has to learn all the Auburn plays that worked against Alabama's defense last year. To be a decent scout team, they have to run them well.
