How can we lose with a backup QB coming in here? We''re loaded and ready. Yeah they have a great defense and we won't just run up and down on them but I see a potential 21-17 win. The turds will be fired up for us but we just need to step up. We need perfect play calling, perfect QB play, defense and special teams keep playing like they are. They need to max out like this is the last game of the season. Forget the rest of the season. We want the turds!!! Now lets go!!!

I like the optimism but what's the chance we will get perfect QB play and perfect play calling against their great defense where we did not have any of that against the cupcakes we played so far?

Trying to stay positive about this game....would feel better w/ Sutton or Kirkland playing...both would be even better. Sure hope JRM is 100%.

If we were hitting on all cylinders like the Northwestern game I would feel really confident but from what i have seen the past 3 weeks and now with the injuries on "D", I am really nervous about this game.

Tailor made, huh? With a patched-up linebacker corps, a few extra button holes in the O-line, and a not quite pin-point passer...yeah, I'd say we've got it all sewn up.

Maybe you have a point. I didn't realize this defense was#1. And they gave up only 53 yards to the last team. That last td against uk was a fluke against 3rd team defense. This is a hard game to call.

Oh my god what if the sun gets in our eyes. Will my Rasin Bran do the job. What if some air leaks from the ball.
Let's just put our big boy pants on and play the game.
Last year it made since to put the game in the hands of the defense. If that is conservative, ok. But I have heard the great majority of posters say Dobbs can't throw. I think more correctly our team was weak in passing.
This year our pass game is better, almost average. Check the stats at season end . If only we could pass block.

Not sure what game your watching, but Dobbs hasn't thrown a good ball over 12 yds this season, even the TD passes where 50/50 jump balls

He may be a backup, but history has been proven that, that doesn't matter in this game. Another thing is, Appleby is not a TF. I believe he is a 5th year Sr. All he has to do is manage the game. He shouldn't make a ton of mistakes at this level in his career. Who knows, he may spark the offense like LSU's backup did for them. With that said, I think we win either way

In a normal and rational universe, a team with a lot of returning starters, a senior QB that has started games since his freshman year, playing at home against a Purdue washout backup should be favored to win. Also worth noting that UT's most famous failures against backup QB's came when the change was made in game, not when they've had all week to practice for him.

That having been said, see e.g., Noah Brindise against Auburn in 1997.

If we lose today we won't be able to beat them for another 3 years. They need to gt it done.
