This can't be a real Butch Jones quote can it?

If that wasn't a goal then the problem is Butch's expectations as the coach at Tennessee and that's worse than having the goal and not making it.

Yep, you are correct. It's funny you completely contradicted yourself. The plan is to win the EAST, but that is not the goal. :loco:

Well he can't reach his "goal" without fulfilling the "plan."

So he failed both. Even better.

I'll say regardless of this quote and its context, I am so sick of Butch Jones' press conferences. I am tired of cliches, I am tired of the same words, phrases, and total BS acronyms he comes up with each and every week, and I am tired of his lack of accountability. We talk every team up like they are the 72' Dolphins. I try so hard to like the guy, I mean he clearly loves Tennessee and is passionate about the program and I want him to do well, but dang I am getting to the point where I get physically ill and mad when I hear the man talk at the podium.

Simple fix--quit watching the press conferences.

He never said he didn't have a goal of winning the East. He said they haven't been talking about it, because "our goal is to be 1-0 every week".

In this way he is like Saban. Saban never talks about potential outcomes, and in fact gets on the press often for doing so. Instead the focus is on what the players need to do game to game and play to play to win.

This has been represented as saying winning the East was not a goal. That is not what he said. He said they haven't talked about it.

It actually makes perfect sense.

You have to admit the team didn't quit even when they knew Florida had won. Unlike the crappy fans who bailed.

Fulmer was quoted as saying " I used the run to set up the punt"......and.... "I didn't just get dumb over night "

How does this apply to anything Jones says?
Yogi Berra also said dumb stuff
Does that apply here too?

Or do I get policed by you now Bc I don't agree with your views?

Is Butch Jones becoming defensive and condescending in his press offerings, and is this possibly a sign of whats next, from the arrogant Jones? :ermm:

You have WAY too much invested in it apparently. :eek:hmy: Heard this from coaches throughout my fandom...ours and others. Maybe instant access causes madness? :scare:

If you win each week, if you go 1-0 each week, championships happen..

Y'all get too bent out of shape about what some football coach says. It has a name for a reason....Coach Speak.

Go outside and get some sunshine or something. Change the channel. Put on a song. Don't worry so much about what coaches say.

He will follow you. Get used to it. It's kind of like having a stalker, except less scary.

Not this new crowd. Bowl eligible is the new standard.

How do you figure? Here's how Fortenberry wrote it on twitter...

"Never heard me talk about it. Never heard the players talk about it." Butch on people talking about winning the East as a goal.

So, he was asked about winning the East as a goal, and he essentially said it was never discussed. No cherry picking, pretty straight forward.

So, if PF writes it, it must be true. Why doesn't someone listen to it?

I just listened to it and it sounds like he's just repeating his answer from the previous question which was very similar. Definitely being blown up by people looking for something

in fairness, you don't have to look too hard...

Actually you do if you find hate or disgust for another in things like this. Nowadays everything gets so chopped up into sound bites and tweets and no one goes to find what was really said. Not to mention the written word is many times very different than how something was actually said.

This place is quickly becoming a bunch of anonymous one-uppers professing their outrage

in general i agree. there's no doubt about the 10 second attention span we now have.

that said, and i know you're referring to my post in the other thread on the "hate". and hate was probably too strong a word there, granted.

i do listen to the pressers, and will generally take a quote and try to find the context.

i'm not on twitter, so unless it's linked somewhere else, i don't see a ton of tweets on stuff like this.

all that to say, CBJ has made it habit to say things that resonate with the fan base, good or bad.

my favorite one was the 6-7 years to build a program comment. i for one did hear that whole interview and defended the crap out of him for that statement...given the context it was made vs. the face value "it takes 6-7 years to build a championship program".

but these last couple of weeks, he's made it difficult...cause even in the right context, a lot of what he's saying, does contradict things he's said in the past.

eh...it is silly to get worked up. i'm not going to deny it. but i did. it just hit me wrong.
