This bill going down HAS to hurt mccain

On the flip side, people have to be wondering over the next couple of days how in God's name is Obama going to do his spending?

I don't know if it does or doesn't. I can see why the economy tanking is a bad think for him but promising to use the government to fix it (the Obama plan) may not be that popular either.

I think it makes Obama and his democratic majority look just as bad if not worse.

do you really think the bill is done, or something similar to it?

No, but it's looking like the republicans voted against this for pure spite. and it makes the republicans look like they have no idea what is going on and how dire the situation is. this stuff can't wait 2 more days IMO. unless we want more bank failures. the market needed a sign that congress is willing to do something drastic.

Because they don't even have a consensus here either. I do not claim to know much about our economy but to say this looks worse for repubs over dems is pretty silly if you ask me, unless there is something I am missing.

They've been claiming to be the back bone of the bill and accusing the Republicans of derailing it but it took a tremendous amount of arm twisting from them to get barely 60% support. The truth is the bill was doomed from the beginning but they kept selling it as a virtual done deal.

Further, they added crap like that ACORN support earmark - ridiculous (as it would be for any Rep added earmarks).

ok. So we need congressional action to stop a major catastrophe and your leaders are Pelosi and Reid. Yea, good luck with that you hooligans.

Some version of this bill will be passed. It has to be.

Congress is just worrying about getting re-elected. Most of them aren't getting re-elected anyway so it's a moot point.

I see this as a lose, lose situation. No matter if we go through with the bailout wouldn't we just be passing the problem down the river to be dealt with at a later time? Again, I am not an expert on the economy but I would almost rather melt down now and get it over with.

I propose a duel. The Dems pick their best shooter and the Republicans the same thing. Survivor gets to run the country for the next five years. Repeat the process later.

As things stand, muskets that don't depend on machine made parts or projectiles may be about where we are technologically in a couple of years anyway.

That is lop sided... the democrats wouldn't stand a chance....

droski said that. is it any less silly to say it looks worse for dems?

i don't think anyone necessarily wins from this. a lot of people seem to be losing though.
