Third team? Seriously?

I love ZZ and this team would be lost for considerable periods of time without him, but he isn't quite enough of a scorer to be first team.

If he had his little brother's height and finished at the rim more, he might be in the same breath as Flagg and Broome for the Wooden Award.

He's the heart and soul of this team. We would be a 9 seed without him, if that high. Probably be playing for the final four at MSG at this point. THAT is first team All America stuff.

Accolades like that have to balance "heart and soul of the team" with the level of playing ability. The guards on the second and first teams bring a much higher level of offensive ability than ZZ and are also pretty good defensive players. As VolArmy said scoring is also the glamour stat, hence Sears getting first team.

Honestly, Alabama might be more lost without Sears than we would be without ZZ.

maybe....I'd say pretty equal in regards, tho.
Either guy being out would be a huge loss to put it mildly.
That said, losing Nelson really hurt Alabama bad. They started getting blown out without him. I've seen them suffer bad when he has fouled out/gets in foul trouble in other games, too.
Nelson is a big part of their success. If he isn't 100% healthy in this NCAAT they are in trouble.

All Sports writers have their own criteria for judging talent and performance and one person’s cake is another’s pie. Since there’s only one point guard on a starting five, 3rd team puts him in the top 3 in the country. Pretty good company.

He’d already be in The League.
