Third down P.A. Call

The year after "Third Down for What," UT was asked what would be the next third down PA call. Some people were outraged at using Lil John. UT said that they "have" something. So now for the last couple years they have this gong, Viking horn, and "It's thiiiiiiird doooown." I watch a lot of college football, and I notice many (if not most) schools have this same lame thing. Do the universities work collectively on what they think the fans will accept and is not offensive to anyone? Why not have something unique?
(At least USCe has that freaking cock-in-heat call. Hate it, but it is unique.)

Not sure the schools work together or anything, but just ride what seems popular at the time.

The horn and gong started in the NFL. I like that we don't do the Lil John thing anymore...it played itself out.

FWIW - I think it would be awesome if the POTSB would play the tag line to either the Imperial March from Star Wars or thd tag from Holtz Mars. Both last just a few seconds and are ominous.

"Third down for what" during Butch Jones era .....I would take the Viking horn , Gong , anything besides that song I'm glad it's gone....yes I'm OLD....

Just say it's third and how many ever yards and be done with it. I can't stand that bellowing buffoon that screams "it's third down" at Neyland. We know it's third down moron, no need to yell.
